[01] Swine Flu Kills French National

A French tourist, 29, who was infected with the swine flu while enjoying his summer vacations in Greece, breathed his last in the early hours of Tuesday at the Sismanoglio Hospital. After his being infected with the swine flu, the patient developed pneumonia and acute respiratory insufficiency and finally died of multi-organ insufficiency.

It is the first death recorded in Greece, since the French tourist did not suffer from any other disease, as was the case with a 23-year-old male who suffered from a cardiovascular disease.

In the meantime, news from the USA is rather alarming, as two new studies released Tuesday suggested that some people we were infected with the H1N1 virus could be carrying it even eight days after the fever, longer than experts thought.

So far, the US health agencies have been advising people infected to wait a day after the fever before turning to their work or school, lest they should spread the virus.

[02] Majority of US Doctors Support Obama's Health Reforms

It is clear that the majority of the doctors support a mixed healthcare system, commented the Journal, also noting that about 69% of the US people are in favour of a mixed system.

As many as 47 million Americans, namely 15% of the country's population, are deprived of health care, making the USA, the world's largest economy, a country lacking in a healthcare system covering its population.

[03] Patrick Swayze Died at 57

Patrick Swayze, best known for his starring roles in the hit films "Dirty Dancing" and "Ghost," died Monday after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. He as 57. The Hollywood heart-throb, whose other films included the surfing thriller "Point Break," died after suffering complications from the illness, Swayze's publicist Annett Wolf confirmed.

"Patrick Swayze passed away peacefully today with family at his side after facing the challenges of his illness for the last 20 months," said Wolf in a statement.

Swayze was diagnosed with advanced stage-four pancreatic cancer in January 2008, leaving him with only a one-percent chance of surviving longer than five years, according to medical experts.

He bravely fought the disease in the public eye, continuing to work on set despite grueling cancer treatment and significant weight loss.

A lanky Texan with a dancer's easy grace, Swayze -- the son of a dance teacher and an engineering drafter -- had a string of hit films in the 1980s and 1990s. He was named "Sexiest Man Alive" by People magazine in 1991.

[04] ND: In the Aftermath of the Ballot Release

The ruling New Democracy party is trying to weather down the reactions by ND cadres Savvas Tsitourides and Aristotelis Pavlidis after their being excluded from the party's ballot. After his verbal reaction on Monday, Tsitourides sent a letter to the Prime Minister asking him to explain why he was excluded. At the same time, milder enough, Aristotelis Pavlides expressed his bitterness.

Aristotelis Pavlides, Petros Doukas and Savvas Tsitourides were excluded from the ND ballot, while Giorgos Voulgarakis, Michael Liapis, Vassilis Manginas, Giannis Manolis and Theodoros Roussopoulos were left out because they decide to stet out.

As soon as Tsitourides learnt the news, he rushed to the part's headquarters and spoke of a lousy and unacceptable political decision. He sent Tuesday a letter to the Prime Minister, asking him to explain why he was excluded.

βThe decision of my exclusion from the ND ballot is an unethical political decision taken by those who are in charge at Maximos Mansion and at the party's headquarters.

In the past, when I was weighed down by the burden of other, I went silent for the sake of a party's course. I won't do the same this time. I ought it to my parents. I ought it to my children. But above all, I ought it to those who believe in me, who are proud of me across Greece and earned a spot in Parliament in 2007, turning a blind ear to the slander of that time. Ever since then, I had been serving the party and backing the Karamanlis administration. The unacceptable decision of my exclusion is an insult to those who honour me in 2007,β read his letter.

Many thought that the former minister implied Public Works Minister Giorgos Souflias, urging the latter to shed light to the matter. Souflias claimed that never before had he been involved in the drawing up of the party's ballot.

In his statement, former minister Aristotelis Pavlides stressed he would avoid commenting on the decision for the time being.

ND Press spokesman Giorgos Koumoutsakos underlined that both the party of ND and the Prime Minister had long before said that the officials' overall political behaviour would be assessed and that the ballot resulted from that assessment.
