    At least 45 people were killed, 140 were injured and hundreds have gone missing in the wake of a 7.3 magnitude earthquake that hit western Java, officials and local media said.

    At least 18,000 houses were damaged and approximately 5,000 people were left homeless, officials were quoted as saying.

    Television station aired a video showing earthquake-hit residents preparing their food outside their houses before dawn and start the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan.

    Rescue crews started pulling to safety 46 people trapped in their rubble of their hours.

    The tsunami warning that had been issued shortly after the tremor was lifted an hour later.

    The tremor was felt in Jakarta, panicking the people and those working in high-rises.

    Indonesia is no stranger to major earthquakes. It is located on the "Ring of Fire," an arc of fault lines circling the Pacific Basin that is prone to frequent earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.

    In 2004, an earthquake measuring at least 9.0 in magnitude struck off the coast of the northern tip of Indonesia's Sumatra island, triggering a major tsunami in the Indian Ocean that killed more than 200,000 people in 11 countries. iReport.com: Swimming pool shakes during quake.
