Nine people were killed and at least 42 injured in two successive bomb attacks on Ritz-Carlton and JW Marriott luxury hotels in Jakarta, capital of Indonesian, on Friday. The explosions took place shortly before 08:00 local time. Another explosion was reported but the incidents were not related. The explosion was caused by a defective car battery. Initially, local mass media had reported a third explosion in a bobby trapped car.

Blast Blamed on Regional Terror Group Jemaah Islamiyah

Two large bomb blasts rocked the Ritz-Carlton and JW Marriott hotels in the Indonesian capital on Friday. The streets outside the two luxury hotels, which sit adjacent to each other in the Mega Kuningan business district in central Jakarta were covered in shattered glass and debris.

Among the dead are foreign businessmen and Indonesians who live abroad.

No organization has claimed responsibility so far, however, authorities were acting on the assumption that the bombing was carried out by the regional terror group Jemaah Islamiyah.

The Manchester United soccer team is scheduled to stay at the Ritz- Carlton hotel on their Southeast Asian tour, local reports said. It is not known whether the team will fly to Jakarta to take part in the friendly game after the blasts.
