  • [01] Measures on Recreational Boats

    News

The Finance Minister unveiled a package of measures to combat the widespread tax evasion in the sector of recreational boats. Drawing a distinction between the private boats and those for professional use and granting a tax registration number to boats under foreign flags that dock in Greek ports are among the measures.

The goal is to upgrade the existing institutional framework and tackle the conditions that favour tax evasion and operate at the expense of the market and competition in the sector.

"It's a sector that that is malfunctioning and the current provisions are not being followed" said Papathanassiou. The measures will include a new corporate legal status to encourage the owners to sail under the Greek flag.

The measures will not affect sailboats up to 12 meters and pleasure boats up to 10 meters in length.

    [02] Papoulias-Karamanlis Meeting

Greek Prime Minister Kostas Karamanlis briefed Monday President of the Hellenic Republic Karolos Papoulias on the outcome of the Brussels Summit. In their short dialogue before the cameras, the two men touched on the opening of the New Acropolis Museum and on the illegal immigration. âThe most important of all is that the European Council ruled that illegal immigration is a major EU affair,â commented the Prime Minister.

Touching on the Summit, the Prime Minister said the 27 EU leaders decided to have border inspection boosted, burdens equally distributed. They also agreed on signing agreements for the readmission of immigrants to their countries of origin.

[03] The First Visitors to the âShrineâ of Ancient Greece

    News

Following the official opening, which was marked by the claim for the return of the Parthenon Marbles, the New Acropolis Museum opened Sunday morning its doors to the public. Brandishing their tickets for a journey through time and place, Greek and foreign visitors enter the New Acropolis Museum to marvel at the unique exhibits. Symmetry and austerity, as well as the deafening silences of the statues make visitors feel enthusiasm and awe.

The tickets for the first three days were sold out in just a few hours, while their distribution took place through the e-ticketing service of the museum. There will be free touring in the first three days.

As of Wednesday 24 June, visitors can buy their tickets both online and from the museum's box office. The museum will be open to visitors from 8am to 8pm, except Mondays.
