News item: 23522 [03] Swine Flu: 12 Cases Detected in GreeceThe swine flu cases confirmed in Greece have risen to 12, after five more coming from Canada and the USA were added to the list. Greece is perfectly braced for this, assured Health Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos, who will chair Friday morning a sitting at the National Health Management Centre.The five new cases were detected in a 37-year-old Canadian male, a 33-year-old Italian woman, a 18-year-old American girl and a 46-year-old American male, from Kansas. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said on Thursday the "Quartet" of Middle East peace negotiators would meet in Italy later this month and he would attend.Speaking during a monthly news conference, Ban did not disclose the date or venue but said the Quartet, the United Nations, United States, European Union and Russia, would discuss ways to secure peace between Israel and the Palestinians. Foreign ministers from the Group of Eight club of wealthy industrial nations are planning to meet in Trieste June 26-27. Ban reiterated that U.S. President Barack Obama's recent speech on improving ties with the Muslim world had helped the cause of peace in the Middle East. "President Obama's address in Cairo has lent new momentum to the peace process," he said. News item: 23517 [05] Iran Holds Presidential ElectionsNewsIran is holding the tenth presidential vote since the 1979 revolution that deposed the Shah of Iran, with Iranians flooding the polling stations. In 2005, turnout in the run-off election stood at 60%. Depending on the turnout, a runoff election has been scheduled for 19 June. The first results are due out on Saturday morning. The key rivals are incumbent President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and former PM Mir Hossein Mousavi. There has been a surge of interest recently in Iran's presidential election, with unprecedented live television debates between the candidates and rallies attended by thousands. Mousavi sent a letter to Iran's religious leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, accusing the Revolutionary Guards, Iran's military elite, of intervening with the election process, fearing vote-rigging. The Revolutionary Guards challenged Mousavi to present evidence, otherwise, they urged him to apologise.
