[01] Siemens Case: Appeal for Disqualification of Prosecutor

On Wednesday, the prosecutor issued arrest warrants against the wife and daughter of Siemens' case key suspect Christos Karavelas for accomplice in legalization of profits and criminal activity. According to the indictment, Karavelas, his wife and daughter were sharing the same bank accounts. His other two daughters were imposed restricted orders, one million euros guarantee and prohibition of leaving the country. In addition they must show up three times a month to the police department. All members of his family denied the charges.

[03] Family Members of Key Suspect Detained

Skarpelis and Georgiou to the Magistrate

Former Siemens officials Ilias Georgiou and Giorgos Skarpelis have been testifying before the magistrate since Wednesday morning, with Skarpelis having resorted to the European Court of Human Rights, requesting all the documents included in the brief be given to him.

Skarpelis filed a third lawsuit against the magistrate for breach of duty and failure to comply with a court ruling.

Wrangling over the Controversial Phone Call from Uruguah

In the meantime, Foreign Minister Dora Bakoyannis lashed out at the diplomatic servants, for the delayed briefing on Karavelas' assets in Uruguay.

Bakoyannis said that the Union of Diplomatic Servants is lying, trying to influence the sworn administration inquiry. She also stressed that those to be held responsible for slow response they will be sanctioned.

[04] Swine Flu to be Declared Pandemic

World Health Organization is prompted to declare swine flu into a pandemic as it has entrenched in Australia and Chile. The new H1N1 flu strain, discovered in April, has turned up in 66 countries as far removed as Japan, Iceland and New Zealand. The virus is now starting to spread in Australia, Japan, U.K., Spain and Chile. The virus, a new strain that's evolved in pigs, humans and birds, has sickened 19,273 people and killed 117 worldwide.

Scotland: Patients Rise to 23

A man and a woman diagnosed with the new H1N1 influenza virus are in a critical but stable condition after being admitted to intensive care in Scotland, an official said on Tuesday.

One patient is a 45-year-old man from Paisley who does not have any other known underlying health conditions, a Scottish health spokeswoman said.

The other is a 38-year-old woman from Glasgow who does suffer from other, unspecified, health conditions.

They were among 23 new flu cases confirmed in Scotland on Tuesday. A further 61 cases were confirmed in England, bringing the total number of confirmed infections in Britain to 339.

Third Death in Canada

An Ontario man hospitalized for other ailments has become Canada's third victim of swine flu, health authorities said Tuesday.

The man, who was previously diagnosed with the H1N1 flu virus and had been hospitalized for several weeks, died on Sunday, Ontario health ministry announced.

Egypt Reports First H1N1 Flu Case

Egypt's health minister has announced the country's first confirmed case of swine influenza A-H1N1.

A 12-year-old American girl showing flu symptoms arrived in Cairo Monday on a flight from Europe. The minister said she tested positive for the virus and is being treated. He said she is in good condition.

A child has become the fifth person in New York City to die with swine flu. The medical examiner is conducting tests to determine what role the virus played in the child's death.

Ukraine Reports Swine Flu Case

The Health Ministry on Tuesday reported "with 99 percent certainty" its first case of H1N1 flu, a Ukrainian who had spent two years in the United States. The case involves a 24-year-old man who had been living in the U.S. city of Detroit and became ill after flying back to Ukraine last week.

Health Condition of Bulgarian Patient Stable

The Bulgarian Health Ministry on Monday confirmed that man who flew to New York via Amsterdam and arrived at Sofia International Airport last week is infected with the virus. The man has been hospitalized and isolated, but is in stable condition.

Australia: H1N1 Cases Rise to 500

Australia raised the H1N1 flu alert level in the worst hit state of Victoria on Wednesday and warned more areas would follow as the national total topped 500.

According to Ministry of Health, 80 per cent of cases, needed greater protection but stopped short of cancelling sports events.

Ankara Confirms Fifth Case

Turkey confirmed its fifth case of H1N1 influenza in a Turkish citizen arriving from the United States, the Anatolian news agency said. The carrier of the flu is a man who arrived on Saturday from the US. The patient was quarantined and is now under observation
