  • [01] Papandreou-Simitis Meeting on Thursday

PASOK's (Panhellenic Socialist Movement) Councils of Foreign Policy and Economy are meeting Tuesday. In two days' time, PASOK leader George Papandreou will meet with former Socialist Prime Minister Kostas Simitis, following Theodoros Pangalos' proposal, whereby Simitis should lead the party's ballot paper for the forthcoming European Parliament elections. Kostas Simitis, on his part, refused to comment on the proposal. "No comment," also said PASOK press spokesman Giorgos Papakonstantinou, who termed the European Parliament elections as a referendum for the government's policy in case they are not preceded by snap general elections.

[02] SYRIZA: Hountis to Lead Ballot Paper for European Parliament Elections

SYN (Coalition of Radical Left) secretary Nikos Hountis appears set to lead the party's ballot paper for the forthcoming European Parliament elections, as he has garnered 49.06 percent compared to 42.89 percent for Dimitris Papadimoulis following the intra-party referendum. Panos Trigazis has landed third place. The final results will come out as soon as possible objections are filed and processed.

Papadimoulis congratulated Nikos Hountis, stressing that SYN's voters sent an explicit and promising message. "The party's leadership has to live up to this message, undertaking positive initiatives," added he.

Papadimoulis then went on to wish Hountis luck, further noting that his leading the ballot paper for the European Parliament elections means undertaking the burden of the collective effort to achieve the party's goal, namely the election of four MEPs.

"It goes without saying that I will keep, as always, contributing to our fight," concluded Papadimoulis.
