  • [01] Ukraine: Building Collapses

The collapse of a block of apartments caused by gas leakage in the Ukraine has killed 19 and injured 24, while 15 persons are reported missing. Rescue teams have managed to recover 21 people from the rubble. Ukraine President Viktor Yushchenko has declared 26 December a national day of mourning.

The president and his political rival, Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, travelled in the same car to the site of the blast.

The blast has been attributed to natural gas leakage took place Wednesday evening in Yevpatoria, in Ukraine's Crimea peninsula.

[02] Investigation on Attack against MAT Continues

The attackers against the Riot Police (MAT) vehicle in Goudi were four. Two of them used Kalashnikov rifles and the others acted as observers. In parallel, 10 shots were fired. The antiterrorist service is examining all finds on the spot where the attack was launched in Goudi on Tuesday dawn. Until now, seven cartridges and five bullets have been found.

The investigation has entered perhaps its most delicate phase, since it has been discovered that the seven cartridges came from two different automatic 7.62mm caliber Kalashnikov ΑΚ-47 rifles. As a result, what remains is for the police to discover whether the weapons had been used in other criminal offences or by anarchists and people of the underworld.

Although the police know about the weaponry used by extremists and murders, they also know that many underworld people, mainly foreigners are using such weaponry.

At the same time, there are indications that others than students enter the University Campus in Goudi. However, no conclusions can be drawn.

Regarding the group "Popular Action" (Laiki Drasi), the police believe that the organisation is not a new one, believing that an announement by the organisation could help the investigation.
