[01] GSEE-ADEDY on Strike
GSEE (Greek General Confederation of Labour) and ADEDY (Supreme
Administration of Greek Civil Servants Trade Unions) will hold their
strike at Syntagma Square at 11:00 as scheduled and PAME (All Workers
Militant Front) at 10:00 in Omonia. On Tuesday, Prime Minister Kostas
Karamanlis has asked from GSEE and ADEDY to suspend their strikes, but
both decided to go on with their strikes as scheduled. Participating in
the strike are also OLME (Greek Federation of State School Teachers of
Secondary Education), private educators, University Professors, port
workers, while hospitals will deal only with emergency cases. In
parallel, journalists will stage a work stoppage from 10:00-12:00 and
POSPERT from 11:00-18:00. The Acropolis, the White Tower in
Thessaloniki and the Knosos archaeological site will remain closed
today due to the strikes launched by Culture Ministry employees, who
demand that their cultural training allowance be secured. After the
morning work stoppage Metro, trolley bus, bus and electric rail
services were restored. The second work stoppage will commence at 22:00
until the end of the shift. The tram will stop running from
24:00-02:00, while changes on train and Suburban rail services will be
implemented. OSE employees will stage three two-hour work stoppages;
from 07.00-09.00, 15.00-17.00 and 10.00-12.00. Besides, air traffic
employees are staging a 24-hour strike today. As a result flights will
be cancelled. Aegean Airlines has cancelled its flights, while Olympic
Airlines has announced that it will cancel 190 flights.
