  • [01] Karamanlis: New Warning to Banks

Prime Minister Mr. Costas Karamanlis talking to the exhibition for the 50 years of the European Bank of Investments, at Maximos Mansion, on reference to the Greek banks' participation on the ⬠28 billion plan he was clear and explicit. He repeated his warnings against banks to support citizens and provided guarantees for once more for bank deposits.

As Mr. Karamanlis stressed: "Participation in the plan is volunteering. However, we are clear that no one has the right to burden borrowers. The state has the capability to secure that goal. The government is determined (and had its way) not to allow behaviors against the social collective interest. The Greek plan does not burden tax payers and does not take out from state budget a single Euro. On the contrary, the complete implementation can bring state profits up to ⬠200 million that we commit to use for the reinforcement of the Social Cohesion Fund and for State Investments."

Mr. Karamanlis presented the immediate goals of the government and said: "We focus on our policies. On one hand on the reinforcement of our co citizens that are mostly in need and on the other hand on the necessary interventions so as to improve the investment environment and to boost the productive base and development. The prospect of the Greek economy is better than Eurozone. And that fact is of major importance. Our immediate goal right now is to limit to the outmost, the negative effects that have risen from the international pressure. And for that reason we are in constant alert."
