Barrack Obama will exercise its leading role as US President to seek a political settlement of the Cyprus issue. He strongly believes that Cyprus must remain a united sovereign country in which each of the two communities will exercise constructive politics within a bizonal, bicommunal federation. Next there will be a fair and mutually acceptable settlement of difficult issues such as properties, refugees and security. On FYROM name dispute, he reminded that Senator Obama was one of the three canvassers of Draft-bill 300 proposing Greece and FYROM to find a mutually acceptable solution to the name dispute through UN procedures. He repeats his invitation to both countries to reach a mutually acceptable solution which will lead to greater stability in the Balkans. Finally with regards the Ecumenical Patriarchate, the statement says "Senator Obama was among the 73 Senators who sent a letter to President Bush in 2006 asking him to exercise pressure on Turkey to restore the rights of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
