She charged up Republicans looking for signs of hope that she and McCain can win the White House on Nov. 4. Palin, 44, Alaskas governor and McCains vice presidential running mate said "in politics there are candidates who use change in order to promote their careers. And there are those liken John MacCain that uses their careers in order to promote change". McCain is behind Obama in public opinion polls by several percentage points and is facing Americans in the mood for change after nearly eight years under Republican President George W. Bush. "Actual Responsibilities" In an effort to reverse the negative climate against her, Palin stressed thatvshe does not want to go to Washington on order to be liked by Mass Media but to service her country. She shot down criticism from Obama that her experience as governor and ex-mayor of tiny Wasilla, Alaska, did not match his own as leader of a large presidential campaign. "I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a community organizer, except that you have actual responsibilities," she said in a swipe at Obamas own early career in Chicago. Other prominent Republican speakers including former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani defended Palin, only the second woman to be a vice presidential nominee of a major political party.
