The cabinet will meet today under PM Kostas Karamanlis chairmanship to examine the ecocomic measures it will take. Mr Karamanlis will conclude his meetings with the social partners and be briefed by Economy and Finance Minister George Alogoskoufis in view of the Thessaloniki International Trade Fair. Yesterday, the prime minister met with Greek Civil Servants Trade Unions (ADEDY) leadership in the presence of Interior Minister Pr. Pavlopoulos, Economy Minister G. Alogoskoufis and Development Minister Ch. Folias. Then, he met with Northern Greek Industries Association (SVVEnd the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry (EBEA) presidiums. In the afternoon, he met with the Central Union of Chambers of Commerce and with the Panhellenic Confederation of Union of Agricultural Co-ops (PASEGES). Exiting Maximos Mansion Mr Alogoskoufis described the governments economic policy consistent and efficient as it had helped it face the international crisis. He also referred to the rise of the development rate and the drop of unemployment. Meanwhile, government spokesman Theodoros Roussopoulos stated that in view of the Thessaloniki International Trade Fair, the government will take under consideration everybodys views and the prime minister will refer to them in his annual speech. Meanwhile, ADEDY is considering of staging ralies in autumn, demanding a basic salary of 1,300 euros and a minimum guranteed income of 900 euros.

[02] Nimetz Exposes Gruevski

UN envoy Matthew Nimetz appears to be annoyed with FYROMS (Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia) provocative statements. At the same time, Mr Nimetz has told NET that both sides have urged him to continue with his efforts for the resolution of the dispute. Meanwhile, Greek Foreign Minsiter Dora Bakoyannis has reiterated that the only issue to be negotiated is the name-issue, reminding FYROM about Greeces right to veto its entry to NATO. On a relative development, the FYROM government spokesman reiterated toMakfax newsagency its allegations as per which Greece is unwilling to resolve the name-issue. In parallel, commenting on information as wper which Nimetz would freeze the negotiations, he stressed that his country is still participating in the process.

[03] Pakistan: Bomb Attack

At least seven people have been killed and 20 injured in a strong blast in a hotel in Sihala near Islambad. All victims were civilians.

The cook told the English-speaking newspaper Dawn that about 20 people were eating at the restaurant of the hotel, near a road when the blast took place.

There has been an upsurge in violence by extremist groups in Pakistan lately.

Last week week, two suicide bombers blew themselves up before the entrance of an arms plant killing 80 people and injuring an additional 100.

[04] Oil Prices Go up

Fears on the possible repurcussions of hurricane Gustav to oil installations at the Mexico Gulf have sent oil prices up in Asia today. Light crude for October delivery has been trading at US$116.94, 67 cents up from yesterdays prices in New York. Bret has also rose by 23 cents, trading at US$114.86 per barrel. As Gustav swept through Haiti yesterday, killing at leat five people, the market fears its repurcussions in the Mexican Gulf, said an analyst of the Commonwealth Bank in Sydney. The authorities suspended all flights and banned ship departures yesterday.

[05] Papariga Visits Argolida

KKE (Communist Party of Greece) Secretary General Aleka Papariga is visiting Argolida today. Now, she is visiting the Argolida Agricultural Cooperatives. Then, she will visit the Courts and meet with the Bar Association. At 12:30, she will give a Press Conference. In the afternoon, she will meet with the temporary administration of the Rural and Stock Breeders Association. In the evening, she will deliver a speech at Midea, Argolida.
