[01] Citizens of 107 Greek Regions Submit Certification

Citizens living in Greece have been given between 17 June and 30 September to submit their property certifications to the 76 new Cadastral offices, since another 107 Greek regions have been included in the Greek National Cadastre. The closing date for Greeks living abroad, who can submit their certificates either online or through a representative, has been set on 30 December. The National Cadastre offices and especially that in Syntagma Square have been busy since morning as citizens flocked there to receive information and the forms required to be submitted in the next three months. Natural or legal persons who own property are obliged to submit their property certifications.

The Cabinet will meet at 11:00 Tuesday under Prime Minister Kostas Karamanlis chairmanship to discuss ways of combating the repercussions of the international economic crisis. At the same time, while Europe in the tumult of surging oil prices, inflation has hit the last decades record in May reaching 3.7% EU member states are meeting in Brussels on Wednesday to discuss a number of measures in the support of low-income earners and ways to keep the cost of living low. Yesterday, the oil reached an all times record to $US140 per barrel. However, prices in Asian markets Tuesday have been sliding, with light crude trading at $US134.47 per barrel and Brent at $US134.60. Analysts believe that the market is expecting OPEC and oil consuming countries to meet in Jeddah on 22 June in order to plan its next moves. UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon stated Monday that Saudi Arabia will increase its daily production by 200,000 barrels for July. However, it appears that the market was not reassured by that announcement.

Greece comes third after Holland and Italy in terms of expensive oil, while profiteers have raised prices in commodities by 48% since the beginning of the year.

Meanwhile, PASOK (Panhellenic Socialist Movement) has described the data on the execution of the budget fiscal deviation, adding that average and low income brackets are paying the bill for the governments incompetence on a daily basis.

[03] Serial Killer Hanged in Japan

At dawn, Tuesday, Japan hanged serial killer of four young girls Tsutomu Miyazaki, 45, who kidnapped, murdered four young girls aged 4-7 years in the late 1980s, then cut up and burned their bodies, the ministry said in a statement. The man was arrested in July 1989 while trying to photograph a naked girl. Then, he confessed that had killed four girls and drank the blood of two of them. Miyazaki, had sent letters to the Japanese Media in which he was arguing he was a woman, assuming the responsibility of the murders. He had even sent the body of one of his victims to her family. Miyazaki sentences was finalized by the Supreme Court in January 2006. Japan, including the USA is one of the few industrial countries that still have the death penalty in force despite the United Nationsnon-binding resolution calling on member countries to suspend the death penalty with a view to abolishing it.
