    Voting on the Revision of Constitution

    The final voting procedure for the revision of Constitution was completed on Tuesday with the approval of 4 under revision articles. More specifically article 57 providing for the abolition of parliamentary members incompatibility of profession with their parliamentary role, gathered 194 votes. Article 79 related to the state budget discussion in Parliament was voted by 197 parliamentary members, article 101 which provides for special attention regarding islands and mountainous areas received 195 votes and article 115 which revokes a transitional arrangement of the Special Supreme Court gathered 183 votes. PASOK parliamentary members did not take part in the voting procedure. In total 197 parliamentary members participated. The rest under revision articles were rejected because they did manage to receive the majority of votes (180). Aleka Papriga was also absent from the voting procedure.

    According to the representative of Foreign Affairs Ministry Mr. Giorgos Koumoutsakos who spoke in NET 105,8 radio station, stated: "Skopje seems to adopt an extreme national rationale." Mr. Koumoputsakos said that Greece pursuits a mutual accepted solution on Skopje name issue and that it will proceed to discussions with the new government after the elections of June 1st taking place in FYROM. On reference to statement of the Primus of the Skopje Church who supported the view that Thessaloniki belongs to Slavs, Archbishop Hieronymus answered: "The Churchs role is to unite; some people must not go beyond their roles".

    [04] At the Occasion of the New IAEA Report

    US's "Concern" Over Iran

    USs respond on the report released in public on Monday by the International Atomic Energy (IAEA) was immediate. According to the report Iran "denies grimly to cooperate and to answer basic questions posed by IAEA." The report refers on issues of nuclear technology in Iran. Through its spokesman in state Department it was commented that "the fact that the Iranian government denies to answer questions regarding the involvement of army officers" is raising concerns. The administrative board of the organization will look into the report in Vienne, June 2.

    SYN Political Secretary's Meeting

    SYN Political Secretary defined the activity agenda of the party within the next months. Ecology, minority issues and the Balkan Meeting of the European Left Parties are at the focus of SYN. Among other issues are the interventions related to issues of Thrace. Focus will also lay on the coordination of competent departments (education, human rights, agricultural and foreign policy), as well as other local organizations. In addition, on the occasion of the World Environmental Day an open rally-discussion was decided to take place at the theatre of Elftherias square at 4/6/2008 about climatic changes and environmental policies undertaken by left parties. What was also discussed is the European Left Partys Meeting which is organized by SYN and will take place at Thessaloniki, 7 and 8 June; political Balkan forces are to participate.
