The last days adverse weather conditions with gale-force winds, chilly cold and snowfalls across Greece have begun abating Monday. However, low temperatures will continue prevailing until Wednesday, while the weather will deteriorate as of Saturday. The departure of certain vessels has been allowed today, the gale-force winds abated. Only itineraries to the Cyclades from Piraeus, to Marmari from Rafina and to the islands of the Argosaronic Gulf run smoothly. The frost and snowfalls have caused problems to the national and country road network, while certain parts of the country road network in Rachi, Euboea have closed, while vehicles cannot use the Agios Petros-Vourvouron road and Leonidio-Kosmas-Sparta road from the 18th to the 40th kilometer in Arcadia. Moreover, cars using the Levidi-Nemea national road from 38th to the 45th kilometer and the Leonidio-Mariou and Leonidio-Agios Vassilios country roads in Arcadia should be equipped with anti-skid chains. Anti-skid chains are a must also for vehicles using the country road network in Laconia, Corithia, Fokida, Fthiotida, Viotia, Evritania and Karditsa. In parallel, all vehicles using the Volos-Zagoras national road from the 17th-31st kilometer and those heading from Arnissa to the Voras Ski Centre in Pella are using anti-skid chains. Moreover, cars using the Florina-Kastoria country road network from the 20th 30th kilometer and the Kastoria-Florina road network from the 22nd-28th kilometer through Vitsi, the Florina-Kastoria network from the 15th-25th kilometer through Vigla and the Kastoria-Ioannina road network from the 35th-45th kilometer through Nestorio should carry anti-skid chains. Finally, the road leading to Mt Parnitha from the funicular railway is closed, while all flights from Eleftherios Venizelos airport run smoothly.

[02] Ieronymos to be Sworn-in Tuesday

The new Archbishop of Athens and All Greece Ieronymos will be sworn in Tuesday in the presence of the President of the Hellenic Republic Karolos Papoulias, Education Minister Evripidis Stylianidis and members of the Permanent Holy Synod. His enthronement will take place at the Athens Cathedral on Saturday. Saying goodbye to his congregation in Livadia Monday, he asked them to respect institutions and remain united, adding that the Archbishop is equal among equals. He also praised former Archbishop Vartholomew, stating that the existence of the Ecumenical Patriarchate is a blessing to the Greek Church. He also stressed that we should all respect the institutions, adding that when persons get sick the same happens to institutions.

[03] Fresh Rise in Oil Prices

Oil prices rose Monday in the Asian market as fears for short supplies surpassed concerns over recession in the US economy. Light, sweet crude for March delivery added 35 cents to US$92.12 a barrel in Asian electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange by midday in Singapore. The contract on Friday jumped US$3.66 to settle at US$91.77 a barrel. Brent crude rose 35 cents to US$92.29 a barrel for March deliveries.
