[01] In the Private and Public Sector 24-Hour Nationwide Strike

GSEE (Greek General Confederation of Labour) and ADEDY (Supreme Administration of Greek Civil Servants Trade Unions) have declared a 24-hour nationwide strike in the private and public sector for Wednesday, demanding significant salary raises and the defence of the collective bargaining institution. The two major Greek trade unionist organisations are staging a protest rally at 12:00 in Pedion tou Areos, while PAME (All Workers Militant Front) begun a demonstration at 11:00 in Syndagma. Rallies will be staged in Thessaloniki too and other major Greek cities. The Metro, Tram, Suburban Railway and Electric Railway will not be operating throughout the day. What is more, employees in Means of Public Transport, Banks, Public Agencies and Services, Health, Education and Media are also participating in the strike. Regarding the Media in particular, POESY (Panhellenic Federation of Journalists Unions) has scheduled a work stoppage from 08:00 to 12:00, while all other Media-related employees will participate in the 24-hour strike as normal. POSPERT (Panhellenic Federation of Employee Associations in the Radio and Television Sector) has declared a six-hour work stoppage from 11:00 to 17:00.

Blue buses will hold a work stoppage from the beginning of the shift to 07:30 and from 22:30 to the end of the shift, while trolleys have announced a work stoppage from 11:00 to 15:00.

OSE (Hellenic Railways Association) will be performing one route per destination, while the Panhellenic Organisation of Railway Workers announced that employees working at the prefecture of Evros would not be taking part in the strike due to the prefecture's state of emergency.

Olympic Airlines have cancelled 94 flights, while they will be performing one flight per destination for domestic routes and one per country for international routes. The company management stressed all passengers were notified in time.

Banks, Funds, City Halls and Tax Offices will be operating with emergency personnel.

According to POSPERT's announcement, the Federation will take part in GSEE's 24-hour strike with a six-hour work stoppage for all ERT personnel from 11:00 to 17:00 and a four-hour work stoppage for private Media personnel from 12:00 to 16:00.

[02] It Was Confirmed Milosevic's Burial in Serbia

Former Yugoslav leader Slobodan Milosevic will be buried in Serbia, announced on Tuesday Milorad Vucelic Socialist President Vice-President. As per Vucelic, Milosevics family would probably choose Russia for his last resting place, as an alternative. Milosevics remains are due to arrive in Belgrade early on Wednesday evening. Milosevics lawyer Zdenko Tomanovic confirmed the information and added that Milosevics son had just let the UN War Crimes Tribunal at The Hague that his father would be laid to rest in Belgrade.

[03] Eleven Dead by Texas Fires

As of Sunday, great fires have broken out in Texas resulting to at least 11 persons to lose their lives and 1,900 homes to be evacuated. The firemen are continuing giving a battle against the fires, which occurred after cyclones in the midwestern states of the US during the previous days. "The fires burned down an area of approximately 2,800 square kilometres," stated the spokesperson of the Governor of Texas, Rick Perry. As per US Mass Media the authorities are suspecting arson. Thunderstorms during the weekend and Monday in the midwestern states of the US caused floods and vast damage and drove Missouri Governor Matt Blunt to declare a state of emergency.

[04] Hostages Released in Gaza Strip

A Palestinian Security Forces source announced that two Frenchmen and a South Korean, who were abducted by members of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) on the Gaza Strip and the West Bank on Tuesday, were released on Wednesday morning. The three hostages were released in the town of Khan Unis, in the southern part of the Gaza Strip, following intensive negotiations and are being transported by the Palestinian police to the City of Gaza. Armed men had abducted them from a hotel in the city. During yesterdays Israeli raid in a Jericho Palestinian prison, at the West Bank, six members of armed Palestinian organisations were arrested.

[05] Olympiacos Heading to the 8
