  • [01] Snowfalls and Heavy Storms Greece in the Freezer

    06 Feb 2006 07:32:00 (Last updated: 06 Feb 2006 12:32:56)

    By Anna Kourti

A new wave of bad weather, with snowfalls and heavy storms, is affecting the entirety of Greece. Snow is also expected to fall in Athens, while snow chains are necessary on the old Elefsina-Thebes national highway and heavy vehicles have been banned from circulating. Last nights downpour caused severe problems in many parts of Athens, while Thessaloniki has been dressed in white and drivers are advised to install snow chains. The Chortiatis-Agios Vasilios junction has been closed since Sunday and the Traffic Police urged drivers traveling on the national and regional road network of Central and Western Macedonia to be extra careful, especially in parts where snow chains are required.

In Chalkidiki, temperature has dropped to minus 5 degrees Celsius, while snow chains are necessary for vehicles traveling on the road network, central and north of the prefecture.

In Kilkis, schools will remain closed today, while temperature is at minus 3 degrees Celsius and snow chains are necessary throughout the road network.

In Edessa, temperature has dropped to minus 1 degree Celsius and rivers need to install snow chains when traveling towards Florina.

Snow chains are also required for vehicles traveling on Western Macedonia's road network, while trucks have been banned from traveling from Kozani to Larissa and Ioannina.

Florina is experiencing biting cold with minus 5 degrees Celsius and all vehicles need to have snow chains installed, while schools did not open for class today. The situation is pretty much the same in Kozani, where schools have also remain closed and snow chains are necessary throughout the entire road network.

Schools did not open in Grevena either, where temperature dropped to minus 1 degree Celsius, while in Kastoria the thermometer showed minus 3 degrees and snow chains are required on the mountainous road network.

[02] In Hospital After Getting Married Marriage By Force

    06 Feb 2006 11:55:00

    By Vicky Keleri

His parents said they did it all for his well-being, but what they managed to do instead is send him straight to hospital for psychological treatment! Well, you will see for yourselves that four weddings in six months is not an easy pill to swallow! Oh, yes! You read right! Four weddings in six months, because daddy and mommy dear, who have been divorced, disagreed with the choice of bride. It all started when the father decided his son should marry and in fact to a woman of daddys choice! There was not much room for the Saudi man to argue and he ended up getting married to a woman from the fathers side of the family. However, the mother could not just sit tight and do nothing and decided she had to act fast, otherwise she would lose her son! Or, she thought she would Anyway, the point is she forced him to marry a second wife, this time from her side of the family! The boy accepted his mothers wish and went forth with his second marriage. But his sufferings were far from ending!

His dad, you see, was not happy with the balance of powers and decided to take more action! He forced his only son to marry a third wife from his side, to show who was boss. The man acted accordingly, but he was already showing signs of mental collapse!

The final blow came with his fourth wedding, within six months I might add again, and the mothers second choice, who decided to go all out on her ex husband at the expense of their child. And while their in-between clash escalated, the groom could not take the pressure of four wives and collapsed!

He is now hospitalized in a psychiatric clinic and subjected to daily medication to help him recover from the shock! As for the parents or wives, he never wants to see them again. Enough is enough!

    By Despina Hristopoulou

Violent reactions over the publication of Mohammed's drawings ended in the most tragic way. In Afghanistan, two people lost their lives and three were injured during a protest rally, when police officers opened fire in the air to disperse the thousands of protestors, who were throwing rocks at the city of Mihtarlam, east of Kabul, asking to shut down the Danish embassy and remove Danish troops from the country. In Lebanon on Sunday, angry protestors torched the Danish consulate, while at least 28 people were injured during clashes with the Authorities and 200 people were arrested. As a result of the violent incident, the Lebanese Interior Minister handed in his resignation.
