The subsiding of weather is visible throughout the country, however, approximately 50 villages remain snowbound, 27 of which in Euboea, while traffic of vehicles in many parts of the road network is being made with snow chains due to the frost. At the same time, efforts for repairing the damage on the power network in Kefalonia and Ithaca are continuing. Military aircrafts and Navy tanks are transporting electric generators to Kefalonia and Ithaca, in order for electricity to be reinstated in the islands. PPC technicians are reassuring the islands residents that all the communities and towns will have electricity until Sunday night. In fact, the wave of bad weather caused vast damage in agricultural and stock farming production units. The Ministry of Rural Development announced that the stricken will be compensated within three months.

[02] Warning by Bush to Hamas Incidents at the Gaza Strip

    28 Jan 2006 12:24:00

    Sources: NET, ANA

The situation at Palestinian territory remains unsettled following Hamas win in the Parliamentary election. Last night, south of the Gaza Strip, clashes took place between armed Hamas men and members of the Palestinian security forces, resulting in at least five persons being injured. In the meantime, today, the Israeli Defence Ministry announced that it will not allow newly-elected MPs of the Palestinian Islamic Organisation, Hamas, to freely circulate in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. At the same time, US President George W Bush stated that the US will stop distributing aid, if Hamas does not renounce violence and its plan to destroy Israel when it comes into power. "If they do not do so, we will not negotiate with them," stated Mr Bush in an interview to television channel CBS. "The aid will not be distributed to the country," said the US President, without explaining if he was referring to the total of aid, including humanitarian programmes or only the funds given to the Palestinian Authority.
