The earning of the 2005 European Cup by Panayiotis Yiannakis players in Belgrade did not only win over the Greeks, but fans abroad. Thus, the three Greek players, Dimitris Diamantidis and Thodoris Papalouas were chosen with other great stars of World Basketball such as Sarunas Jasikevicius, Dirk Nowitzki, Andrei Kirilenko, Tony Parker and Pau Gasol are among the "24" for the emergence of Best Player for 2005. Apart from the above triplet, another Greek player Nikos Zisis is a candidate for Young Men 2005 as is Kostas Vasiliadis, with Mickael Gelabale, Erazem Lorbek and Fran Vazquez.

Its the truth. We will agree with the view of Sergey Brinn, one of the two founders of Google. Ten years ago a scientist from Stanford University could not access the information that a surfer can from an Internet caf&#233; in Bangladesh. Popular search engine Google partially contributed to that. This is why its two founders, Sergey Brinn and Larry Page were awarded by the Financial Times. The top economic newspaper named them as Men of the Year, recognising the effect that their company has on Internet users, as well as their contribution to technology and entrepreneurship in the previous year. Googles course in Wall Street is also a success story on its own. It is worth approximately 130 billion dollars, nearly at the level of IBM and tailing Microsoft and Intel at the technology industry.

[03] To the State and Political Leadership Happy Wishes and Carols

Christmas melodies filled the Presidential Mansion as student choirs and dance clubs sang the carols to the President of the Republic. Mr Papoulias listened to traditional songs and carols from around Greece, Pontos, the islands and Palestine. The Epirus Brotherhood gave an impressive performance singing the traditional Pogogianni Christmas carols, which Mr Papoulias used to sing as a child. Following, he visited the men of the presidential guard, with whom he exchanged wishes. Ministerial offices were also filled with Christmas tunes.

[04] By the Children and Elderly Papandreou's Holiday Visits

Today, in view of the Christmas holidays, President of PASOK George Papandreou visited the Open Protection Centre for the Elderly in Tavros and the Support of Children and Families Centre in Metaxourgio. Following, he arrived that his partys offices and exchanged gifts and wishes with the employees. Mr Papandreou, after thanking the employees over their support and help, noted that the past year has been very constructive and PASOK, which as he noted, has entered a new route is constantly in a reconstruction phase.

Christmas Carols and Wishes

This morning, Mr Papandreou, accompanied by his wife Ada, arrived at the Open Protection Centre for the Elderly (KAPI) in Tavros, where he heard its residents sing traditional carols. Moreover, he was briefed on the problems faced by the KAPI, mainly over its financing, since Municipalities are in dire economic straits.

The elderly of Tavros KAPI offered Mr Papandreou an icon and a book on the history of the Municipalitys streets, while on his part the President of PASOK offered a check in order for them to buy basic necessities for their residence.

Shortly after, he visited the Support of Children and Families Centre in Metaxourgio, where children from Thrace descending from Roma, who speak Greek, Turkish and Rom, are hosted.

The employees of the centre, as well as the childrens parents spoke to Mr Papandreou over their problems, mainly for the creation of a day-care centre, high unemployment and illiteracy rates, while the distribution of meals by the City of Athens is a very important gesture of help.

In closing, the children sang Christmas carols to Mr Papandreou, who with his wife offered gifts for the boys and girls of the centre.

[05] Police Immediately Rushed at the Scene Bomb Farce at Carousel

An alarm sounded shortly after 21:30 at the Operations Centre of Emergency Police after a bomb threat at the Carousel on Syntagma Square. The unidentified man called and said that the bomb would explode in half an hour. The officials of the Operational Centre sent policemen, motorcyclists and police cars, who closed-off the area at the surrounding streets and removed people from Syntagma Square. The Fire Squad searched the area, without locating anything suspicious. Around 22:30 the traffic lanes were reinstated and problems in the citys centres were gradually repaired.

[06] Over the Bomb at the Ministry of Development "Epanastatiki Drasi" Under Suspicion

No organisation has claimed responsibility on the bomb explosion outside the Ministry of Development, last night at Ambelokipi. However, the police believe that the explosive device was placed by "Laiki Epanastatiki Drasi" (LED), but are reserved until formal responsibility is claimed. Officials of the anti-terrorism service are concentrating of that view, since the device is identical to ones placed by the organisation outside of three construction companies and another placed at a Rover car dealership at Glyfada, actions which it has claimed responsibility of with a letter.

The bomb was placed inside a Nescafe coffee tin and composed of a detonator, stopwatch and approximately 200 grams of explosives.

The detonator and 50 grams of the explosives blasted.

It was placed in a cement flowerbed, outside of the Ministry of Development, and no damage was done.

The area had been immediately closed-off, as there was a warning phone call to Eleftherotypia newspaper beforehand.

[07] At the Bank of Greece Phone Call Warning of a Bomb

Panepistimiou Street is closed off following a phone call warning of a bomb at the Bank of Greece. The phone call was made at 11:05 in the morning by an unknown man to top selling Eleftheroptypia. The police immediately threw a cordon around the area and evacuated the building. However, there was no blast and the police estimate that it was probably a hoax. The bomb squad accompanied with specially trained dogs was investigating the building up until 1pm for precautionary reasons.

[08] In Corfu and Heraklion Bad Meat

Competent bodies are running continuous spot checks in food businesses regarding health conditions and new cases of bad and dangerous food surface day by day. A health panel from the Heraklion prefecture confiscated 300kg of frozen chicken sold as fresh. What is more, it also confiscated small quantities of expired food in various shops. In Corfu, Veterinary control agencies located large quantities of bad meat at a meat processing business. The dangerous batch was taken to the refuse dump, while the business owner supported he had already packed the bad meat in order to destroy it. Yesterday, health panels in Pyrgos confiscated 1,400kg of bad feat cheese stored in cooling chambers.
