[01] Until 6am Friday Media on Strike

All the Greek unions of employees working in the Media and Press sectors are proceeding with a 24-hour nationwide strike from 6am Thursday to 6am Friday (Greek local time). The unions are demanding, among other things, measures to combat unemployment; payment of wages owed to employees and immediate payment of debts owed to Social Security Funds; observance of Collective Work Contracts; abolishment of unreliable work conditions (no social security, low wages) and freelance work; resolution of the issue with fixed-term work contracts, especially in ERT; implementation of permanent work contracts for everyone and promotion of stable, full-time work; and implementation of transparency measures for Media owners. No news bulletins or news shows will be broadcast by ERT or any of the other radio and TV networks, due to the 24-hour strike. A rally will be staged on Wednesday at 11:30am in front of the offices of ESIEA (Journalists Union of Athens Daily Newspapers), at the intersection of Akadimias and Voukourestiou Strees, Athens, while the protestors will then march towards the Parliament. With an announcement sent to POESY (Panhellenic Federation of Journalists Unions), the IFJ (International Federation of Journalists) and the European Journalists Association voiced their support for the Press and Media employees strike.

Who Is on Strike

All journalists and employees working in newspapers, magazines, radio and TV stations, the Internet, ANA (Athens News Agency), MPA (Macedonian Press Agency), the General Secretariat of Information, ETIPTA (Athens Daily and Periodical Press Technical Personnel), ETER (Greek Union of Radio Engineers), EFE (Greek Photographic Society), PEL (Greek Lithographers Union) will be on strike from 6am today until 6am tomorrow.

In addition, the members of the Union of Athens Newspaper Agencies will go on strike from 9pm Thursday to 9pm Friday.

The members of the Private Greek TV Technicians Union of Attica (ETITA) will proceed with a 4-hour work stoppage on Thursday 24 November from 11am to 3pm.

The Unions of Athens and Piraeus Newsagents will also participate in the collective actions, supporting the demands of the strike.

The only journalists excluded from the strike are the ones who will cover the collective actions of the unions.

[02] AEK: Defeat in the Finale

In Vitoria, AEK tried to overcome the situation, but unfortunately could not, since it was defeated by Tau, 77-62, in the 4th day of the Euroleague. AEK was very good in the three ten-minute periods and was nearing the score, but in the fourth ten-minute period broke down and succumbed to the superiority of its opponent. This was the second defeat for AEK, while the third win in the event for the Spanish. The scores of the ten-minute periods: 12-24, 34-37, 57-54, 77-62.

[03] Olympiacos Put Up a Fight

In Vilnius, Lithuania, Olympiacos surprised Lietuvos Rytas thanks to the good set up of the team by Jonas Kazlauskas, who seemed to know of all the opponents secrets and thus managed to threaten it until the last period. Lietuvos did not manage to escape at any part of the game, while the "red and whites" often were the ones with the lead and control of the game. All this happened up to the third period, which finished 60-59 for Lietuvos. However, the Lithuanians in the fourth period started their offence crescendo, and with four consecutive three-pointers took the lead and stayed there until the end.

[04] Olympiacos: The Usual

In its favourite time period, the 88th minute, Olympiacos destroyed its last hope of gaining something from this tragic year in Champions League. In the 25, Rivaldos goal, 1-0, lasted up to all the previous good European nights of the "red and whites," which is the last ten minutes. In the 88, Helstad found the constant gap in Olympiacos defence line and took advantage of it tying to 1-1, and gaining one point; sending Rosenborg to the "16" of the UEFA Cup, and leaving Olympiacos indifferent over the last match with Real Madrid. All this happened, three minutes before the tie, when Nikopolidis had blocked a penalty kick by Johnsen, after being fouled by Pantos. This caused Olympiacos to be left with ten players, since that was the second yellow card of the Greek defence player.
