[01] New Reactions to Simitis' Book Criticism From Within

Former Prime Minister Kostas Simitis book keeps stirring up reactions. Speaking on the Media, PASOKs parliamentarians kept aloof and criticised Mr Simitis choice to make public through his book facts and parameters of his eight years in office. In his interview with Kathimerini, Gerasimos Arsenis spoke of selective memory and accused the former PM of "exposing and dishonouring the Greek Army Forces," while he blamed him for being preoccupied with an unjustifiable urge to defend his governments work. He also voiced his opposition to the "imperial", as he described it, way of succession within PASOK and revealed that in July 2003 he had sent a letter to Mr Simitis urging him to cleat the way for the succession procedures.

"I would have been more careful if handling the Imia crisis," said to daily Kosmos tou Ependyti Akis Tsohatzopoulos, who underlined that the issue was political and not military and connected the crisis to the change in PASOKs leadership in 1996.

On his part, in his interview with top selling Eleftheros Typos, Kostas Skandalidis stated that he would not choose to write a book so soon, noting "I would not dare do such thing. I would let history do so at its own pace."

At the same time, the opinion poll conducted by ALKO on the behalf of top selling Proto Thema, showed that 63.1% of the participants attributed PASOKs defeat to the wrongdoing within the Simitis administration as opposed to 24.4% who put the defeat down to a misguided pre-election strategy.

Furthermore, on the question of "Who is more suitable for PASOKs leader," George Papandreou received 45.3% compared to Kostas Simitis with 36.2%.

[02] Nikolopoulos Explains

ND parliamentarian Nikos Nikolopoulos argued on Saturday that his statements were misinterpreted. In his written statement, Mr Nikolopoulos noted that the real meaning of his statements is frequently silenced and some quotes may easily lead to misinterpretations and misunderstandings. In particular, referring to the phrase speaking of a "light government," Mr Nikolopoulos said, "This was the case with the word light which extracted from the main body of my last interview left room for interpretations I did not make and for misinterpretations and misunderstandings I did not pursue." The ND parliamentarian went on to say, "Therefore, as I have always been supportive of NDs course and of Kostas Karamanlis way to the top, I keep backing the ND government and the Prime Minister, Kostas Karamanlis, with the same fighting spirit for a new administration of Greece and a new era for the Greek people."

[03] One of the Perpetrators Was Wounded and Arrested Armed Robbery in Agios Dimitrios

An armed robbery occurred on Saturday evening in the area of Agios Dimitrios, southern Attica. Two men stormed in a shop and, pointing their guns at the cashiers, took a so far unidentified amount of money. A policeman, who happened to be in the shop, realized what was going on and tried to stop them. They, then, opened fire against him and he fired back One of the perpetrators was wounded and arrested. As per information, the wounded, who is probably of Romanian descent, was transferred to the hospital where he is being treated guarded. Investigations are under way for the arrest of his accomplice who managed to escape.

[04] In Orestiada and Komotini Arrests On Phising

The Electronic Crimes Unit arrested two individuals in the northern Greek cities of Orestiada and Komotini. The two detainees, a 30-year-old Greek national and a 30-year-old Ukrainian, were members of an international ring hacking the banks computer systems and transferring large amounts of money from bank accounts. Using the logos of three Greek banks, they sent emails requesting the banks clients give them their pin codes. Those clients who fell prey, realized later on that large amounts of money had been transferred to the perpetrators accounts. The full scale of the fraud is not yet known, however, the Electronic Crimes Unit estimates that it is likely to exceed 30,000 euros.

How They Were Located

A digital analysis allowed the Police to locate the perpetrators and catch them red-handed.

In the meantime, following an investigation conducted in the houses of the perpetrators, the policemen found and confiscated four hard discs as well as written material.

It is noted that this kind of fraud is called scamming or phising and although the experts underline that bank accounts data should be confidential, in a total of 100 people who receive such emails nearly five of them answer back.

[05] PAME Workers' Rally

Their opposition to the economic policy of the Government was voiced by workers and members of the All Workers Militant Front (PAME). The employed and dismissed rallied at the Pedion tou Areos, demanding full-time and permanent employment for all, minimum wage of 1,300, salary of 52 daily and pension of 1,050 euros. The protest rally ended with a march towards Parliament. Earlier, contract agent firemen had rallied at the Ministry for the Interior demanding their permanent working status.

[06] Grand Victory for Aris

In a nail-biting encounter that did not finish before the extra time, Aris achieved a great away 79-76 victory over PAOK on match day four of A1 Division in the Greek basketball championship. Aris had been better since the very beginning of the game and maintained control of the game until the beginning of the fourth period. It was then that PAOK, the home side, made his comeback and within eight minutes they managed to equalize the game and play for the win in the injury time. However, Aris regained their strength and score yet another victory topping the scoreboard along with Panathinaikos. The score per period: 21-26, 37-49, 53-62, 69-69, 76-79 (extra time).

[07] Easy Win for Panathinaikos

Panathinaikos claimed their forth win running for Division A1 in the Greek basketball championship. Panathinaikos coasted a 92-65 victory over Panellinios on match day four at the OAKA stadium. The reigning champions had a sluggish first half, but in the second, they showed who they really are. The score per period: 20-20, 42-36, 68-53, 92-65.

[08] Hard-Won Victory for Marousi

In the opening game of match day four of Division A1 in the Greek basketball championship, Marousi left behind their defeat from Olympiacos on match day three and achieved a 79-72 victory over Apollon Axaia. The encounter turned out to be a real derby with the guest team fighting to the very end to score their first victory in this years championship. However, certain turnovers towards the end of the game did not allow them to leave the court with heads up. The score per period: 17-17, 34-37, 53-57, 79-72.

[09] By Dermatologists and Plastic Surgeon Only Botox Injections with Doctor's Order

It is one of the most powerful and reliable weapons women have in their battle against time. Botox injections, which are listed among the most popular medicines improving the appearance of frown lines, will be prescribed in Greece as well. The Greek National Organisation of Medicines approved the administration of the medicine, thus allowing Greek women to access it via a simple doctors prescription. It is noted, though, that the Botox injections should not be administered unwisely and without restrictions, since the dermatologists and the plastic surgeons only will be accredited to prescribe them.

[10] Beachwear in Classrooms

A failure in the heating system caused the pupils at a German school to experience their most clothes-free days of their lives! With the radiators stuck on full power, the school turned into an inferno! The temperature was above 30 degrees Celsius, even with all the windows wide open, making the pupils grudge and unable to attend the classes! So, to avoid jeopardising the schools curriculum, the pupils were allowed to shift from jeans and tracksuits to swimming shorts and bikinis until the radiators could be fixed! You see, although the heating system is brand-new and really costly, yet it has been having problems since the day the new one was installed. The latest failure was the most severe one, but the mystery still remains, since the experts have been unable to identify the problem!
