[01] More violence in Iraq

Two Finnish businessmen were shot and killed in Baghdad in the latest violence against foreign civilians. North of the capital, a car bomb blows up near a U.S. Air Force base, killing two Iraqi civilians and wounding 25 others.

[02] Vote of Confidence for government tonight

Following a three-day debate in Parliament a Vote of confidence in Prime Minister Kostas Karamanliss New Democracy government will begin at midnight. Employment Minister, Panos Panayiotopoulos reassured that there would be no age limit increase for pension issuance.

[03] Bilateral Cyprus talks end, no deal-Greek Cypriots

Greek Cypriot President Tassos Papadopoulos said today bilateral negotiations with Turkish Cypriots on a peace deal had reached no agreement and would now move to Switzerland, where Turkey and Greece would join them. Four-way talks also involving officials from motherlands Greece and Turkey will now open on Wednesday at the Swiss resort without the participation Turkish Cypriot leader Raouf Denktash who has refused to travel to Switzerland, saying the talks there will be a waste of time, though his pro-settlement Prime Minister Mehmet Ali Talat will go.

[04] PM Karamanlis meets with Europarliament chief, Pat Cox

The Cyprus dispute, terrorism and the European Constitution were at the center of talks held today at Maximos Mansion between Prime Minister Karamanlis with the president of the European Parliament, Pat Cox.

[05] Public Order Minister clarifies NATO's Olympics presence

Within the framework of the program policies in Parliament, the Minister of Public Order Giorgos Voulgarakis gave clarifications today about NATOs participation for the security of the Olympic Games. Mr. Voulgarakis mentioned NATOs assistance would not include land forces and units in uniform, and denied relevant newspaper reports.

[06] Greece-EU condemn Yassin's assasination

Foreign Minister Petros Moliviatiis stated that Greece together with all EU countries strongly condemned the assassination. EU Parliament president Pat Cox expressed the EUs condemnation over the assassination today during the First Euro-Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly that began today at the Divani Apollon Palace in Kavouri. Mr. Cox underlined the action will not help the peace process in the Middle East.

[07] Israel kills Yassin, drawing Hamas vows of revenge

Israel assassinated Hamas leader Sheikh Ahmed Yassin outside a Gaza mosque today, striking its heaviest blow against the militant group behind dozens of suicide bombings and drawing vows of revenge.

Israeli security sources said Prime Minister Ariel Sharon personally ordered and monitored the helicopter attack against the paralysed cleric. At least seven other people died in the Gaza strike and two of Yassins sons were among 15 wounded.

Angry Arabs and Muslims called for revenge and predicted a wave of violence in response to Israels assassination of Hamas leader Ahmed Yassin today.
