[01] Gunmen kill 2 U.S. civilians in Iraq

Gunmen posing as Iraqi police shot dead two U.S. civilians and their translator on a road south of Baghdad, officials said today, in the latest attack targeting foreigners.

[02] February's inflation rate decreases

Inflation dropped to 2,5% in February from Januarys 2,9% rate. The decrease is mainly due to the reduction in fuel prices.

[03] Israelis kill five Palestinians in West Bank raids

The Israeli army staged its deadliest West Bank raid in months today, killing five Palestinian militants in violence that overshadowed a new round of international diplomacy.

[04] Pasok pres. G. Papandreou to meet with Executive Bureau and Central Committee members

Within the next few days, Pasok president George Papandreou will meet with the Executive Bureau and Central Committee members in order to evaluate the election results. Yesterday, Mr. Papandreou conducted consecutive meetings with top party officials and special analysts who examined the reasons that led to the partys electoral defeat.

[05] Cypriot president to meet PM Karamanlis on Sunday

Cypriot President Tassos Papadopoulos is to consult the new Greek government on Sunday on how to move forward troubled talks on reuniting Cyprus. Mr. Papadopoulos expressed the certainty the new Prime Minister of Greece would handle the Cyprus issue to the best of his ability. During the meeting on Sunday, tabled will be strategies to be followed by Athens and Nicosia in view of the negotiations that begin next week for security and for the upcoming talks to be held on March 22nd.

[06] Cyprus issue tops Foreign Ministry's agenda

The developments in the Cyprus dispute in view of Cypriot President Tasos Papadopoulos visit to Athens on Sunday were discussed this evening during a meeting between PM Karamanlis and Foreign Ministry officials.

Foreign Minister Petros Moliviatis stated the Cyprus issue will be of immediate priority. The foreign minister also pointed out that the intention is for the talks to be successful so that a solution is found before May 1, in order for a reunited Cyprus to join the EU.

[07] PM and Cabinet sworn in

Greeces new Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis and most of his Cabinet were sworn in on today in a ceremony officiated by Archbishop Christodoulos, in the presence of President of the Republic Costis Stephanopoulos, at the Presidential Mansion in downtown Athens.

Not participating in todays swearing-in procedure were Dimitris Avramopoulos, who will be assuming the newly-formed ministry of tourism, and his deputy minister Anastasios Liaskos; Fani Palli-Petralia, who will be assuming the new post of alternate minister of culture; and Evripidis Stylianidis, who will be assuming the new post as the third deputy minister for foreign affairs. The four will be sworn in after the relevant Presidential Decrees establishing their posts have been prepared.

Light clouds are forecast in all parts of the country, turning to rain and storms in the west from late afternoon and then spreading eastwards. Winds variable, moderate to strong. Temperatures in Athens will range between 7-16 C and in Thessaloniki from 4-11 C.
