    Rescuers at a Moscow water park, where a roof caved in killing at least 25 people, pulled away the last big concrete slabs today but feared more people were trapped under masonry, glass shards and icy water

    [02] Two fires kill at least 90 in north, east China

    A fire at a crowded shopping mall killed at least 53 people in Chinas northeast, while 39 died in a blaze in a temple in the southeast. The fires added to a string of deadly accidents despite repeated official promises to improve public safety.

    [03] MRB poll shows G. Papandreou most suitable for Prime Minister

    A nationwide opinion poll carried out by the MRB company published in todays edition of the newspaper Kathimerini, shows the main opposition New Democracy party leading the ruling PASOK party by 3 percent in view of the March 7 elections. On the question of who is most suitable to become prime minister, PASOK leader George Papandreou received 45.6 percent compared to ND leader Kostas Karamanlis 41.8 reflecting a 3.8% lead for Mr. Papandreou.

    During a campaign speech in Patras today, New Democracy leader, Kostas Karamanlis criticized the governing party of Pasok of aiming to distribute offices and posts and characterized Pasoks new leadership as a product of transactions and interventions by non-institutional centers

    In response to New Democracy leader, Kostas Karamanlis requests for televised debates, Pasok president, George Papandreou sent a letter to New Democracy president Kostas Karamanlis proposing four televised debates divided into thematic sections and another debate between those heading the state council ballot.

    With the phrase, I am one of you, a Greek of the Diaspora Pasok president, George Papandreou began his speech this afternoon in Stuttgart Germany where he spoke to a packed auditorium of Diaspora Greeks. Mr. Papandreou criticized the New Democracy party of practicing catastrophic polices contrary to Pasok which desires elections of expectations.

    [07] Winter storm problems gradually ending

    Most of the major problems attributed to the recent winter snow-storm are centered in the regions of north-east Attica and Crete, which remains in a state of emergency.

    Primary and secondary schools will remain closed tomorrow in Eastern Attica, expect those in the municipality of Vouliagmeni, and in Western Attica schools located in Zefiri, Fyli and Ano Liosia. In addition, schools in Evia, the prefecture of Rethymno with the exception of Rethymno city and certain schools in Chania prefecture will also be closed tomorrow. Many regions throughout Attica remain without electricity and water due to over consumption, however water and electrical service will gradually be restored within the next few hours.

    All bus service is functioning according to schedule in Spata, Koropi, Anthousa, Ano Liosia and the Eleftherios Venizelos international airport while many roads still remain closed in certain parts of northeast Attica. Many flights have also been cancelled and travelers are urged to contact their airline prior to arriving at the airport. Airport officials are reassuring that all flights will resume to normal schedules within the next few days.
