    [02] National Bank to offer 10% of its equity to investors

    As part of the government's plan to privatize state-owned enterprises, Greece's largest bank ' the National Bank ' today said 10 percent of its equity will become available to Greek and international institutional investors. The Piraeus Bank will shortly follow the move, offering 6.7 percent of its stock.

    [03] Agriculture Ministry brings second action against strikers

    Amidst a new wave of strikes tomorrow, a court will hear a motion by the Agriculture Ministry to oblige striking state-employed agronomists and veterinarians to return to work. Other industrial action tomorrow includes state hospitals, taxis, police, firemen and coastguard officers.

    [04] Illegal home owners can submit documentation tomorrow

    Owners of illegally built houses will have the opportunity, starting tomorrow, to submit the requisite documentation to municipalities and town planning authorities, in support of their applications to be connected to public utilities. The main opposition New Democracy party slammed the measures, as pre-election panic on the part of the government.

    [05] Russia pushes Greece on tycoon's extradition

    Russia said today it had sent new information to Greece to back its case for the extradition of Russian former media magnate Vladimir Gusinsky, wanted on suspicion of a $250-million fraud and money-laundering scheme. Last month a Greek appeals court postponed a ruling on the extradition request, pending more information being supplied by Moscow

    [06] Turkish-Cypriots to be able to vote for European Parliament

    The Cypriot government plans to enact a new law to allow Turkish-Cypriots to vote in European Parliament elections next year, an official on the divided island said today. Only the internationally-recognized Greek-Cypriot areas of Cyprus will effectively join the European Union, unless there is a reunification agreement before May 1 next year

    [07] Israel vows to attack its enemies "anywhere"

    US President George W. Bush today stiffened his insistence that Israel has the right to defend itself, as Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon vowed to attack Israel's enemies anywhere it wants. Meanwhile Palestinian President Yasser Arafat today swore in an emergency cabinet that officials said would try to persuade militants to halt attacks on Israel

    [08] Turkey votes troops for Iraq, despite Baghdad's opposition

    Turkish lawmakers voted today to send troops to Iraq, at the request of the US occupiers, but Baghdad's Governing Council declared it was opposed to soldiers coming from any neighbour, including Turkey.
