The temperature in Athens will range from 22 to 33C and 20 to 29C in Thessaloniki.(12/7/2003 11:53:00 рм) [02] ND & PASOK parties accuse each otherThe issues of imminent changes in the political system and transparency in public life have caused friction between the government and the New Democracy party.From the podium of the New Democracy Central Committee the New Democracy party leader Costas Karamanlis reiterated that Greece could not stand a nine-month long pre election period and asked again for elections setting his party in readiness. Mr Karamanlis attributed Prime Minister Costas Simitis' recent announcements to pre election expediencies and described the recent raising of the issue of double nationality of northern Epirotes an attempt to alter the electorate. The New Democracy party leader also referred to the Capital Market Committee, which he described unreliable, accusing the government of covering suspicious transactions. In reply, government spokesman Christos Protopapas said that the New Democracy party and its leader are slaves to a conservative mentality, accusing Mr Karamanlis of intervening in the Capital Market Committee. From its side, the Communist party of Greece announced that the New Democracy party was competing worthily PASOK party as regards demagogy, while DIKKI party spoke of insipid juxtaposition between the two parties. Meanwhile, the Capital Market Committee announced that it is ignorant of the accusations launched against it regarding the Athens Stock Market activity in 1999, stressing that it had imposed administrative sanctions to hundreds of cases, while dozens of cases had been referred to justice. (12/7/2003 11:55:00 рм) [03] Denktash speaks of two separate states in CyprusIn a letter to the United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan, the Turkish Cypriot representative Rauf Denktash asks for the building of confidence measures between two different states in Cyprus and appears ready to allow the return of Greek Cypriots to Famagusta in exchange to the reopening of the International airport in Nicosia.In reply, the President of the Cyprus Republic Tasos Papadopoulos, who will hold a meeting with the National Council on Monday to examine the proposal, explained that Mr Denktash's proposal is part of his familiar policy to maintain the occupant regime and establish 'relations of good neighbourliness'. Finally, American ex Deputy Foreign Minister Richard Holbrook maintained that Turkey could do more to encourage Mr Denkash to finally do the 'right thing'.
