    The day will start sunny, with isolated showers and storms from afternoon, mainly in the centre and north. Winds northerly, light to moderate. Temperatures in Athens between 17C and 31C; and in Thessaloniki from 16C to 29C.

    [02] G8 meeting winds up its sessions

    The G8 Summit Meeting in Evian is winding up its sessions at noon today with the issuing of a communiqu&eacute; that will be confirming the confidence to the world economy, despite the difficult conditions existing presently, support to the development of Africa, and the use of additional measures against terrorism and the spread of weapons of mass destruction.

    Yesterday, referring to the conclusions of the Summit Meeting, presiding Prime Minister Costas Simitis said that after the end of uncertainty caused by the war against Iraq, the world economy had begun recovering gradually. Regarding the Middle East issue, he expressed the joint conviction that a solution was imminent, since everyone would support the USA's initiative with American President George Bush's visit to the region.

    Meanwhile, the German and Swiss police evacuated a bridge in Geneva that had been taken over by 500 demonstrators, who were demonstrating against globalization and the G8 Summit Meeting.

    Moreover, clashes took place near the railway station of the city.

    [03] ELPE & Petrola merger to be discussed at Parliament tomorrow

    The Board of Directors of ELPE and Petrola are meeting today to approve the merger of the two companies, ratifying thus the colossal business deal announced on Friday.

    The discussion on the state of the economy in Parliament tomorrow, will be held in the atmosphere of confrontation, related to accusations concerning corruption and shady dealings of political and financial interests, while ND has submitted a ELPE &amp; Petrola merger to be discussed at Parliament tomorrow

    The Board of Directors of ELPE and Petrola are meeting today to approve the merger of the two companies, ratifying thus the colossal business deal announced on Friday.

    The discussion on the state of the economy in Parliament tomorrow, will be held in the atmosphere of confrontation, related to accusations concerning corruption and shady dealings of political and financial interests, while ND has submitted a proposal to form an auditing committee for the stock market.

    [04] N 17 & Otsalan trials continue

    The trial of the N17 terrorist organisation continues today with the accused Anestis Papanasisiou' s brother Athanasios Papanastasiou's testimony.

    Moreover, the trial regarding PKK leader Abdulah Otsalan's illegal entry to Greece continues today. Yesterday, while testifying, the former Secret Service officer Sawa Kalenderides said that Mr Otsalan's illegal entry to Greece had harmed Greece in the short and long run.

    [05] Bakoyianni invites Erdogan to attend ATHENS 2004 Olympic Games

    Athens Mayor Dora Bakoyianni and Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan' meeting in Ankara yesterday was dominated by Greek Turkish relations, the Cyprus issue and Turkey's European course.

    Mr Erdogan accepted Mrs Bakoyianni's invitation to attend the ATHENS 2004 Olympic Games.

    Meanwhile, 36 Turkish jet fighters violated 25 times the Greek airspace in the Aegean and harassed a Singapore Airlines aircraft 20 miles north east of Karystos. The Foreign Ministry was briefed about the incident.
