    A cloudy and rainy day is forecast for most parts of the country . Temperatures in Athens will range between 15 C to 24 C and in Thessaloniki between 14 C and 20 C.

    [02] Bank of Greece governor proposals provoked strong reactions

    Both the government and the General Confederation of Greek Labor have strongly reacted to proposals made by the governor of the Bank of Greece, Nikos Garganas for wage and price reductions to deal with unemployment . Press Minister, Hristos Protopappas denied any plans to slash wages while the President of the General Confederation of Greek Labor, Hristos Polyzogopoulos described Garganas proposals as out of place and time.

    In the meantime, the Greek Communist party has predicted that the fast rise in unemployment would affect thousands of self-employed and middle-size businesses.

    A Panhellenic survey conducted by the VPRC company, on behalf of the Sunday newspaper, Kyriakatiki Eleftherotipia, indicates that unemployment, rising prices and health are the main issues that citizens want dealt immediately

    In another opinion poll, carried out by the RASS company and published in the Sunday newspaper Kathimerini , the main opposition ND party appears to be leading the ruling Pasok party in voters preferences by 39,6% compared to 29,8%. In response to the question who is most suitable for the post of Prime-minister, ND leader, Kostas Karamanlis was shown as being slightly ahead of Prime-minister Kostas Simitis with 33,5% compared to 32,8%.

    [03] Cyprus President in Athens

    Cyprus President, Tasos Papadopoulos arrived in Athens last night for talks with the Greek political and state leadership. Talks will focus on the E.U s role in developments in Cyprus.

    Cyprus Interior Minister, Andreas Hristou said that most measures to support the Turkish-Cypriots are being implemented. However, he underlined the existence of some practical difficulties and the need for cooperation with the E.U and the occupation authorities for the implementation of some measures.

    [04] Olympiakos 2003 football champion

    Olympiakos won its 7th straight first diviasion Greek Championship easily defeating Xanthi 5-1 in the last game of the 2002-2003 football season. Thousands of Olympiakos fans gathered at the Athens airport to warmly welcome the team arriving from Xanthi.
