[02] Greek student sympathizer of N17 arrested in Britain

The trial of the N17 terrorist organisation is beginning today with the discussion of the objections of the counsels for the defence on the structure of the court.

Moreover, the court will decide today whether TV cameras will be used in the court room. It should be noted that yesterday, all accused expressed their wish for the televised coverage of the trial.

At the same time, the police authorities arrested a Greek University student in Britain because he possessed items that could be used for terrorist acts. The 25 year-old student had also expressed his liking to the N17 terrorist organisation in the internet. The student will be tried on March 11.

At the same time, the Greek Embassy in London will protest to the British authorities today for not having briefed it in time on the arrest and detention of a Greek citizen.

In an interview with NET 105.8, the Foreign Ministry representative Panayiotis Beglitis stressed that the Foreign Ministry is in constant contact with the Greek Embassy and the British government.

[03] Annan presses for Cyprus issue solution

In view of the scheduled meeting between the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot sides at the Hague on Monday, deliberations are taking place on the Cyprus issue. Both sides will have to answer on Monday whether they agree to hold a referendum separately that will decide whether Mr Annan's revised plan would be accepted.

Meanwhile, before his departure for Athens, where he will meet with Prime Minister Costas Simitis, the President of the Cyprus Republic Tasos Papadopoulos stated that there existed no third choice, adding that a 'yes' or 'no' will be the required answer to Mr Annan's plan.

The National Cyprus Council will take the final decision of the Greek Cypriot side on Saturday, while the Turkish Cypriot representative Rauf Denktash rejected again Mr Annan's plan, despite the continuing demonstrations in occupied Cyprus.

Finally, in a letter sent to the three guarantor powers for Cyprus, United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan asks for their direct involvement and asks from the Greek, Turkish and British Prime Ministers to send high rank representatives to Hague on Monday.
