    The National Meteorological Service forecasts for today rain in Western and Northern Greece, which in the afternoon hours will spread to Attica and the rest of the country.

    Winds southwesterly, strong with the temperature ranging in Athens from 3 to 12 C and in Thessaloniki from 2 to 6C.

    [02] One more suspected ELA member brought to the police headquarters

    The anti terrorist service arrested a person under the nickname &#8220;Andrew&#8221; and brought him before the police headquarters this morning in relation to the issue of the terrorist organisation ELA. The person's nickname appears in the archives of Stazi.

    Meanwhile, Messrs Ageletos Kanas, Constantinos Agapiou and Irene Athanasaki, who are accused of participating in the terrorist organisation ELA, will testify tomorrow.

    However, the three apartments that had been used by the organisation as hide outs, were found empty. The authorities from their side have stated that their fingerprints were found on the organisation's propaganda sheets and that Mr Ageletos Kanas and an unidentified woman under false names had rented the apartments.

    [03] Blackmails case to end soon

    The Public Prosecutor is examining the case of blackmails of businesses and will announce his outcomes soon. Meanwhile, Metropolitan of Zakynthos Chrysostomos testified that three persons among whom one publisher and one journalist blackmailed him when he was running for the archbishopric in 1998.

    [04] Diplomatic efforts for the prevention of war against Iraq continue

    Diplomatic efforts for the peaceful settlement of the Iraqi crisis are culminating, while American Secretary of State Colin Powell is expected to draw attention on the proof he is to present at the Security Council tomorrow regarding the possession of arms of mass destruction by Iraq.

    Meanwhile, Foreign Minister George Papandreou, who is having discussions with the Lebanese leadership in the Middle East, will visit New York to attend the Security Council meeting, on the sidelines of which he may meet with Mr Colin Powell and the United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan.

    At the same time, Mr Papandreou has asked from Bagdad to fully cooperate with the United Nations, while from his side the Head of the International Committee of Atomic Energy Mohamed El Baradei and Saudi Arabia asked the same thing from Iraq.

    On a relative development, the British Prime Minister Tony Blair, who accused Iraq of lack of cooperation, had telephone conversations with the Russian President Bladimir Putin, the German Chancellor Gerhard Shroeder, as well as with his counterparts of Greece Costas Simitis, of Italy Silvio Berlusconi and of Spain Hose Maria Athar.

    At the same time, American President George W. Bush announced a series of measures among which the vaccination of the whole American population in the case of a chemical or biological attack in the USA, due to the imminent attack against Iraq.

    Meanwhile, 38 communist, labour and left wing parties all over the world announced that the war against Iraq had already been decided upon, warning at the same time that the American doctrine of precautionary wars will have disastrous repercussions.

    [05] Solbes underlines the need for more measures on pensions and SSF

    Following his meeting with the Finance Minister Nikos Christodoulakis, the competent commissioner Pedro Solbes stated that the Greek economy is developing well due to several reasons among which is the staging of the 2004 Olympic Games.

    However, Mr Solbes pointed out that the high growth rate in Greece is causing inflationary pressure that must be dealt with. Additionally, the Greek government will have to deal with the issue of public debt and the challenges deriving from the aging of the population. Finally, the commissioner urged the Greek government to take fresh measures for pensions and the Social Security Funds.

    [06] Clerides &#8211; Denktash meeting to continue tomorrow

    The President of the Cyprus Republic Glafkos Clerides stressed that the unprecedented interest in the Cyprus issue internationally will have to be utilized, underlining that that interest would not continue to be manifested forever.

    Meanwhile, the Clerides &#8211; Denktash meeting that began yesterday will continue tomorrow will focus on the issue of territories. It should be noted that yesterday's meeting proved fruitless, since Mr Denkash's council asked for additional time to examine the issues raised.
