[02] New wave of bad weather

Torrential rain during the last two days has caused extensive destruction to property on the remote island of Kasos which has been declared in a state of emergency. Dozens of houses and business premises have suffered irreparable damage due to flash floods and mudslides while there are problems with the water supply system and telecommunications. Live stock and crops have also been destroyed throughout the island.

The General Secretariate for civil protection yesterday sent the necessary relief on Greek Navy vessels. Today local authorities will begin assesing the damage which will be completely covered by the state. The Interior Ministry announced that Kasos flood victims will be granted a sum to deal with their first needs and receive equal compensations with the Kifissos river flood victims.

[03] Erdogan- Resolution of Cyprus issue feasible

Officials of the Turkish-Cypriot opposition are being closely monitored after the massive demonstrations against the policy of Turkish-Cypriot leader , Raulf Dektash in the occupied part of Nicosia.

Dektash claims that the campaign against him was launched under the instructions of former EU ambassador to Ancara, Karen Fogh with the aim to set him aside.

An article in the Turkish-Cypriot newspaper – Kypris- quoted the leader of Turkey s ruling party, Tayip Erdogan saying that Turkish –Cypriot mobilisations will intensify unless the Cyprus political problem was resolved , adding that a resolution till February 28 was feasible if the last 40 years rethoric was abandoned.
