[01] Erdogan visits Greece

Returning from the occupied territories of Cyprus yesterday, Mr Erdogan stated in Ankara that despite the negative points, Mr Annan's plan could constitute the base for further discussions.

Meanwhile, in an interview with the newspaper &#8220;Ta Nea&#8221;, Foreign Minister George Papandreou is asking from the Turkish-Cypriot leader to resume his responsibilities for the Cyprus issue, stressing that if the Cyprus problem is solved, then the problem of the continentals shelf will not exist the following year.

On a relative development, the National Council of Cyprus is meeting today to decide whether it will accept Mr Annan's plan.

At the same time, returning from Athens to Nicosia yesterday, the President of the Cyprus Republic Glafkos Clerides verified his unanimity on the stance the Greek government will adopt regarding Mr Anan's plan. However, the Church of Cyprus and the smaller Cypriot political parties have rejected Mr Annan's plan.

The President of the Socialist party EDEK, Vasos Lyssarides expressed his fears to NET 105,8 that the tight time schedules, an effort is being made to relate Cyprus' accession course to the European Union and the solution of the Cyprus issue.

Meanwhile, the deterioration of Mr Denktash's health is causing doubt as to whether the deadlines set by Mr Annan can be observed.

Finally, Foreign Minister George Papandreou is briefing the European Union Council of General Affairs, while in an interview with NET 105.8, New Democracy ex MP Andreas Andrianopoulos stated that the more the solution of the Cyprus issue is delayed the more things will get worse.

[04] Greek-Cypriots' answer on Annan's plan expected soon

The Cypriot President from his side stressed that if the solution would not be operational, then new tension would be created.

Mr Annan's plan was discussed during Mr Clerides' successive meetings with the President of the Hellenic Republic Costis Stephanopoulos, political party leaders, as well as with the American special coordinator Thomas Weston.

From his side, the New Democracy party leader Costas Karamanlis expressed reservations regarding the functionality of the proposed solution, stressing that his party would support the Cypriots' decision.

The Secretary General of the Greek Communist party Aleka Papariga described the proposed solution false and not functional, stressing that her party would stand by the Cypriots' decision.

The Central Committee of the Synaspismos party announced that it supports the beginning of negotiations so as the negative points and strict deadlines of Mr Annan's plan be dealt with.

At the same time, Mr Weston stressed the urgency of the situation, adding that steps should be made fast.

In the meantime, the National Assembly will meet in Nicosia on Monday so as the final decisions are taken.

On a relative development, the winner of the Turkish elections Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated from the occupied territories of Cyprus, where he is paying a visit, that Mr Annan's plan is negotiable. Mr Erdogan, who is being expected in Athens on Monday, also said that both sides should make compromises if a solution was to be reached. Additionally, he said that Cyprus should wait to be acceded to the European Union with Turkey.

From his side, in an interview with the Turkish newspaper Millet, the Turkish-Cypriot representative Rauf Denktash maintained thatMr Annan's plan was full of traps, adding that an agreement could not be signed before the Copenhagen Summit Meeting on December 12.

Finally, Prime Minister Designate Abdulah Gul is expected to present the structure of the Turkish Cabinet in the beginning of next week. He also stressed to CNN Turk that the solution of the Cyprus issue would help Turkey make a big step towards its accession to the European Union.
