In this way consumers will be briefed and inflationary pressures will be controlled.The Minister of Finance Nikos Christodoulakis described inflation as a national plague, calling on consumers to cooperate so as to drop it, while Development Minister Akis Tsochatzopoulos urged consumers to purchase the cheapest articles in the market. On a relative development, in an interview with NET 105.8, IKNA president Charalambos Kouris called on consumers to boycott the market on September 3. Moreover, Prime Minister Costas Simitis had a fresh meeting with the Ministry of Finance today on the economic policy of 2003 and a meeting with the governor of the Bank of Greece Nikos Garganas. New Democracy Parliamentary spokesman Prokopis Pavlopoulos stated that the draft-bill did not offer any guarantee to the protection of free competition, transparency and the combating of corruption. From his side, Greek Communist party spokesman expressed his party’s fixed position against privatizations, while on behalf of Synaspismos party P. Lafazanis stated that the sell out of state enterprises is being pursued in summary procedures. Finally, the farmers’ problems will be discussed today among New Democracy party cadres at a meeting to be chaired by the party leader Costas Karamanlis.
