    Rain or storms are likely from late afternoon in the northern Ionian, Epirus, Macedonia and Thrace, which will see scattered cloud earlier in the day. The rest of the country will be hot and sunny. Winds west-northwesterly, light to moderate, turning strong in parts of the south. In the west and north, temperatures will range from 21C to 34C; on the rest of the mainland from 23C to 38C; and in the islands from 24C to 39C. Temperatures in Athens between 26C and 38C; and in Thessaloniki from 24C to 33C.

    [02] Xiros&#8217; brothers examined by Counter-Terrorism Service

    Two of the four brothers of the alleged terrorist Savvas Xiros Christodoulos and Vassilis are being questioned by the Counter-Terrorism Service until now.

    Xiros&#8217; brothers were transferred in a C-130 transport plane from Thessaloniki on Tuesday.

    Regarding Savvas Xiros&#8217; healh it is improving day by day after unergoing an eye operation. At the same time respiratory problems have been restored.

    Meanwhile, referring to publications according to which wanted terrorist Dimitris Koufodinas was a member of the PASOK youth organisation, Press Minister Christos Protopapas said that after the collapse of the junta thousands of young people joined PASOK and later left it.

    Finally, the local PASOK youth organisation in Gyzi anounced that Koufondinas stopped being its member after 1977.

    [03] Preparation status of ATHENS 2004 Games under examination

    The competent bi-ministerial committee met yesterday and dealt with the course of Olympic projects and the safety of the ATHENS 2004 Games.

    From his side, Prime Minister Costas Simitis asked from his ministers to continue their work with the same hectic pace in the summer months and referred to the death of four workers. He stressed that from now on contractors who would not adopt the required safety regulations would be sacked.

    Meanwhile YPEHODE is promoting a provision that is included in an amendment of a bill related to the construction coefficient. This will lead to the aesthetic restoration of Athens buildings, especially in the central road axes that lead to areas that will host Olympic sports.

    [04] Repercussions of terrorism on Municipal elections examined

    The PASOK Communications body met yesterday and examined the issue of terrorism and the repercussions that it might have on the Municipal elections and dealt with the coordination of actions up to October.

    Emphasis was placed on the civilians&#8217; increase of awareness of the government work, which is being considered as very important.

    [05] Simitis to check with Greek Railway Organisation works

    Prime Minister Costas Simitis is expected to visit Tempi and Platamonas in Northern Greece today, to inspect the works of the Greek Railway Organisation being carried out there. In the afternoon, the Prime Minister will meet with Interior Minister and Public Administration Costas Scandalides.

    [06] Karamanlis tours the Balkans

    Main opposition New Democracy (ND) party leader Costas Karamanlis met in Belgrade on Tuesday with Yugoslav President Vojislav Kostunica as part of a two-day visit to Yugoslavia and Albania by a European Peoples Party (EPP) delegation including EPP President Wilfried Martens.

    Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Karamanlis said President Kostunica's contribution to the region's stabilisation is recognised by all, adding that he has made great efforts to have wounds left in the country by the adventures of the past decade healed.
