    A sunny day and a slight increase in temperatures is forecast for today with a possibility of scattered cloud, rain or storms later in the afternoon in Macedonia, Thrace and the midlands. Northerly winds strong on the Aegean. In Athens temperatures will range between 24C to 36C and in Thessaloniki between 22C to 34C.

    [02] Greek police released photographs of material uncovered in November 17 hide-outs

    Public Order Minister , Mihalis Hrisohoidis will today brief the cabinet on the course of investigations on the November 17 organization. Following his meeting with Prime-minister Simitis yesterday, Mr. Hrisohoidis stated that investigations continue stressing that they will be conducted till the end in accordance to the constitution and state laws so that democracy be the final winner.

    In the meantime, Greek police- ELAS- yesterday released photographs showing dozens of anti-tank rockets, hand grenades, revolvers and pistols as well as the type-writer with which they wrote early proclamations and the group s red flag bearing a yellow star All material uncovered in the two hide-outs of the terrorist November 17 group were taken to police labs and detailed tests have already started, police spokesman Lefteris Economou told reporters.

    In parallel, Savvas Xiros involvement in the German ambassador s residence rocket attack in 1999 was confirmed, as DNA tests showed, blood found at the site of a bomb blast at the port of Pireus 12 days ago which triggered the raids , matched that found outside his residence after a November 17 attack in 1999.

    Savvas Xiros , 40, the first suspected November 17 group member ever to be held, was injured while trying to plant a bomb device at Pireus port which detonated prematurely. Savvas Xiros is at the Evangelismos hospital under strict guard .

    [03] E.U unveils farm policy reforms

    The European Commission yesterday unveiled proposals for a radical makeover of E.U farm policy that would stop subsidizing over-production.

    E.U Farm Commissioner, Franz Fishler proposed cutting the link between aid to farmers and food output and redirecting payments to those who meet strictly quality , animal welfare and environmental standards .

    The plan would reduce direct payments to farmers by 20% over seven years &#8211;from 2004 to 2011- and use the money thus saved for rural development , co-financed by national goverments.

    The Greek government is against the reforms and insists on the direct subsidy of farmers.

    [04] Metron Analysis survey results

    A new survey conducted by Metron Analysis brings the main opposition N.D party ahead in voters preference with 38,8% against 30% of the ruling Pasok party. The Greek Communist party follows with 5,6% , the Coalition of the Left and Progress with 3% and the Democratic Social Movement with 2,9%.In response to question who is the most suitable candidate for the post of Prime-minister, the N.D leader, Kostas Karamanlis came slightly ahead with 35,3% while Prime minister Simitis got 35,2%.

    [05] Cyprus helicopter crash, two senior military officers killed

    In Cyprus, investigations continue into the causes of a military helicopter crash which killed two senior military chiefs and three others .

    With sabotage being ruled out almost from the outset, investigators from Cyprus and Greece will focus on mechanical fault which forced the helicopter to land on the edge of a precipice. The helicopter was given the all-clear by engineers and pilots half an hour before takeoff from the capital Nicosia . It was less than a minute away from its air-base destination in Paphos when it dropped off radar scenes.

    [06] Higher pensions for those who retire till 2012

    One in two people to retire in the next 10 years will benefit from reforms in the social security system.

    According to the president of employees at social security funds , Giorgos Koutroumanis, 400 thousand people out of the 650 expected to retire till 2012 will get higher pensions or will retire at an earlier age.
