    Hot and humid weather is forecast in all parts of the country with scattered cloud. Showers are likely in the northwest. Winds southerly, light to moderate, turning strong at sea. Mostly sunny in Athens, with temperatures between 18C and 34C. Same in Thessaloniki, with temperatures from 16C to 31C.

    Temperature is expected to reach 36C tomorrow while the first heat wave of the summer is expected on Monday .

    [02] Labor reforms draft-bill submitted to the parliament

    Labor Minister, Dimitris Reppas submitted the bill on social security reforms to the parliament yesterday. The bill includes 11 articles which will be examined by the parliament s competent group before the summer session begins.

    Press undersecretary, Tilemahos Hitiris said that the new draft-bill on social security guarantees pensions for future generations.

    Commenting , the ND party described it as a number of regulations without a specific direction while the Coalition of the Left and Progress party said that it did not guarantee tripartite financing.

    In reaction to the new draft-bill on labor reforms the Union of

    Civil servants and some unions of the General Confederation of Greek labor have announced industrial mobilizations for June 18.

    In the meantime, the European Commission has approved the 29.5 million euro state funding for the early pension of 200 employees at the Skaramaga shipyards

    Blue buses will not run from 10 to 15 hours today due to a general meeting of workers in public transport.

    IKA doctors begin tomorrow a new round of 24 hour rotating strikes which will end on June 28 demanding the permanent hiring of 5.500 doctors working under contracts

    [04] Consumer loans increased

    According to data released by the Bank of Greece,by the end of March consumer loans have increased by 36.1% compared to the same month last year. However, the pace of increase of consumer loans is lower compared to the pace of increase of house loans.

    [05] Prime-minister in China

    Greek Prime Minister Costas Simitis who is on a six-day tour of the People&#8217;s Republic of China, yesterday visited the ancient Chinese capital of Xi&#8217;an on his itinerary.

    During his stopover in the city, Mr. Simitis toured a museum housing the famed terra cotta army of thousands of warriors and their horses.

    Mr. Simitis was also received by the governor of Shanxi province. The Greek delegation departs for Shanghai today where the Greek Prime-minister will meet with representatives of the business world.

    [06] President of the Republic in Australia

    Greek President of the Republic Kostis Stephanopoulos, currently on a Asia-Pacific tour taking in Singapore, Australia and New Zealand, wrapped up his visit to the Australian city of Melbourne yesterday.

    The Greek president arrived in Canberra today, the second leg of his official visit to Australia where he met Australian Governor-General Peter Hollingworth and Australian Prime Minister John Howard for talks on bilateral and international issues.

    [07] N.D party leader leaves for the U.S

    N.D party President, Kostas Karamanlis is leaving for a 7-day visit to the U.S today. During his meeting with the President of the European Commission , Romano Prodi in Brussels yesterday Mr. Karamanlis stressed that Cyprus must be included in the first group of countries to enter into the E.U regardless of the solution of the political problem or not

    Members of the Pasok party Central Committee headed by the Pasok party General Secretary, Kostas Laliotis will today meet with the President of the Athens Olympic Committee, Yianna Aggelopoulou Daskalaki to discuss issues related to volunteerism and sports.

    [09] Frigate Spetses replaces frigate Psara in the Gulf

    Greek frigate Spetses sails off the Salamina navy port today to replace frigate Psara participating in the Permanent Peace operation in the region of the Arab Sea, the Persian Gulf and the Indian Ocean.
