    [02] Weather forecast

    Scattered cloud is forecast throughout the country, with early morning mist. Winds south -southwesterly, light.

    In the north, temperatures will range from 2C to 19C on the rest of the mainland from 7C to 20C and in the islands from 9C to 18C. Cloud will build up in Athens, with temperatures between 8C and 19C. Same in Thessaloniki with temperatures from 5C to 18C.

    [03] All politicians denounce attempt on Stephanopoulos implication to scandal

    The attempt to implicate the President of the Hellenic Republic Constantinos Stephanopoulos in the issue of illegal gambling was denounced by all politicians.

    From his side Mr. Stephanopoulos stated that he had never thought of being accused of activities that would be illegal and thanked all politicians for having confidence in him.

    Prime Minister Constantine Simitis praised the Greek President and strongly critisized those who tried to implicate him in a scandal. Similarly, the government spokesman spoke of a miserable journalistic practice that tried to involve Mr. Stephanopoulos, adding that the Greeks would not allow anyone to promote scenarios against Democracy and institutions.

    Meawhile, New Democracy spokesman Theodoris Rousopoulos stated that those who tried to accuse the President were aiming to disrupt Democracy in Greece. On a similar development, the Speaker of the Greek Parliament Apostolos Kaklamanis conveyed to Mr. Stephanopoulos the MPs confidence to him. PA.SO.K Secretary Costas Laliotis stated that his party denounced the attack against the President in the most categorical way, while similar statements were made by the New Democracy Secretary Evagelos Meimarakis.

    The Secretary General of the Communist party of Greece Aleka Papariga contacted Mr. Stephanopoulos, while a relevant anouncement will be issued today by her party. Free Citizens Movement Dimitris Avramopoulos described the Greek President as a symbol of unity, while Social Democrat Movement leader Dimitris Tsovolas stated that the President could not be accused of anything.

    Finally, the Journalists Union of Athens Daily Newspapers (ESSIEA) issued an anouncement denouncing the attack against institutions, adding that it would examine this journalistic approach that jeopardizes all Greek journalists.

    [04] Farmers to decide on their further stance in the coming days

    Famers will decide on their further stance when they are informed on the final cotton prices.

    The price issue will be decided upon in the coming days, Agriculture minister Georgios Drys stated at an interview with NET (New Hellenic Television).

    Moreover, he stated that the farmers who suffered damages by the bad weather will be compensated immediately for their whole production.

    Today, the farmers representatives will hold successive meetings with the opposition party leaders.

    [05] Papandreou to meet his Turkish counterpart

    Foreign Minister George Papandreou is expected to meet his Turkish counterpart Ismail Cem on Friday Greek in New York, on the sidelines of the sessions of the international Economic Forum which will not be held in Davos, Switzerland, for the first time this year.

    According to sources, the two ministers will discuss procedural issues in view of the dialogue which will start soon at a level of experts.

    In Athens, the government spokesman described the dialogue with Turkey as desirable and reiterated that the only difference which Greece recognises is the limits of the continental shelf.

    [06] Public hospitals on sceleton staff due to strike

    All public hospitals will operating under sceleton staff today due to the 48 hour strike staged by doctors yesterday.

    Meanwhile, the Council of State court reporters are supporting the ban for doctors parallel employment.

    [07] Investigation ordered on imports of poisoned meat and poultry

    The Court of First Instance has ordered a prelimenary investigation regarding the import to Greece of meat and poultry carrying toxic substances.
