According to an anouncement of the Ministries of Agriculture and Development, new installations will operate in the wider area of the present meat market in Pireaus within the first six months of 2002. About 50 meat enterprises will be housed there, while the present installations will be abolished. The cost of the new installations is to reach 4.3 billion drachmae. Finally, New Democracy Euro deputy Costis Hatzidakis accused the governenment of lack of interest, despite the reports of officials and the requests of shops. [03] CBS allegations on terrorism in Greece rejected by former American ambassadorFormer American ambassador in Greece Robert Keely rejected one by one the allegations presented at a CBS programme regarding terrorism in Greece, with a letter to the American network and was published by the Greek newspaper "Ta Nea".The American ambassador is accusing the channel of being prejudiced against Greece, asking it to apologise to all those who had worked for the combatting of terrorism. [04] Klerides- Denkash meetings to intensifyAfter his meeting with the American President George W. Bush at the White House yesterday, the Turkish Prime Minister Bouled Ecevit stressed the need for compromise between Greece and Turkey on the Aegean issue.During the meeting, the two men discusse the Cyprus issue, Greek Turkish relations and the Euro army. Regarding Greek-Turkish relations, the White House epxressed the wish for a continuation of the rapproachment course, while American offcials made it clear to Mr Ecevit that the USA would not obstruct Cyrpus´s accession to the European Union, asking him to exert pressure on the Turkish-Cypriot representative Rauf Denktash to adopt a constructive stance. Mr. Bush, from his side expressed his satisfation over the beginning of the dialogue between the two sides. On a relative development, the President of the Cyprus Republic and Mr. Dentash agreed to meet three times a week so as the dialogue between them to continue. Finally, sixteen formations of Turkish warplanes infringed on Athens Flight Information Region (FIR) rules in the Aegean on Wednesday, according to press reports from the Greek capital. Turkish fighter planes also violated Greek national airspace in Northern and Southeastern Aegean. Defence ministry sources said that this activity was not extraordinary [05] Delays on Olympic Projects says KaramanlisNew Democracy party President Costas Karamanlis presented a report at Parliament according to which there have been serious delays on the preparation progress of 16 Olympic projects. The report had been written by technical advisers of the Organising Committee for the Olympic Games ATHENS 2004.From his side, Prime Minister Costantine Simitis underlined that the Olympic Games is a national issue, while Environment, Natual Planning and Public Works Minister Vasso Papandreou and Culture Minister Evagelos Venizelos spoke of inacurate information and wrong assesments. Finally, sources of the ATHENS 2004 Organising Committee described the text as technocratic and of minor importance. [06] Karatzas, Kostopoulos to meet again today to save merger of Alpha and National BanksThe Ethniki Bank-Alpha Bank agreement has been saved for now, after the joint announcement of the two institutions reaffirming the dedication of both administrations to the merger, and a new round for resolving any existing problems is beginning.In this framework, the directors of the two banks, Theodoros Karatzas and Giannis Kostopoulos, are expected to have a new meeting today, this time on taking up joint responsibilities in all sectors by representatives of both banks. [07] New telephone codes as of SundayA new system of telephone codes nationwide will take mandatory effect on Sunday following a transition phase when both the old and new arrangements were in use.State-run Hellenic Telecommunications Organisation (OTE), a heavily traded stock on the Athens bourse, said in a statement on Wednesday that all fixed-line phones will have 10-digit numbers, with the area code and a "0" preceding the local number. For example, numbers in Athens will be preceded by 010, regardless of whether the call is local or long-distance, taking the figure to 10 digits, the statemen said. Special OTE three-or four-digit information and help numbers will remain unchanged, it added. [08] Macedonian type tomb discovered in IoanninaA significant archaeological discovery came to light in the region of Agios Dimitrios in Ioannina, northwestern Greece. It is a Macedonian type one-space tomb part of which has been destroyed by grave robbers.The tomb covers a space of 120 square meters and it is of a special archaeological value because such constructions are very rare.
