However, Pakistani experts on Afganistan consider the figure improbable , with one estimating total Taliban military strengh at no more than 45,000. In a message he faxed to Katar television channel, Osama bin Landen called on muslims in Pakistan to respond to any attack in Afagnistan by american crusaders. The US was building a slow but deliberate coalition against Osama bin Landen on Tuesday, seeking global help to battle terrorism and isolate the man it blames for the attacks on NY and Washington. US military services are drawing up plans in absolute secrecy as their target is not only bin Landen but 26 other targets. In the meantime, there is wide spread fear for a biological and chemical weapon attack on the US , while the President of the International Health Organisation Gro Brutland has called on goverments to be prepared to deal with such a possibility. In a separate development, journalists in Washington have strongly reacted to the State Departments decision to ask the US funded Voice of America radio station not to air a rare interview with Mohammad Omar, leader of Afganistan' s ruling Taliban saying it was against every principle of journalistic ethic.

The State Department defended its decision saying that the American taxpayer, the Voice of America should not be broadcasting the views of the Taliban. The Onassis Foundation has donated the sum of 500,000 US dollars to the assistance funds for the widows and orphans of the hundreds of firemen and policemen who were killed while trying to save people trapped in the rubble of the two towers of the World Trade Centre in New York following the terrorist attacks on the US on September 11.
