[02] Developments in the Cyprus issue

The special advisor of the UN secretary general, Alvaro de Soto, is preparing an overall Cyprus settlement in the form of a document covering 4 aspects which he will convey to the Greek-Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot sides, after the talks in September.

The document - according to information transmitted by the Cyprus state radio - will be conveyed in the framework of a next round of talks that will most likely be held in October and prior to the review of the EU - Turkey partnership relations.

At the UN-sponsored proximity talks due in New York in September, Mr. de Soto is expected to convey the informal documents separately on the various aspects of the Cyprus issue, taking into account the reactions of both sides.

The response of the Greek-Cypriot side will be based on three points: The need for a solution that will be conform to the European established facts, promotion of the Security council resolutions as the core for the creation of a settlement context and third, the unanimous decisions of the Cypriot National Council and high level agreements.

[03] Albanian Socialist party leader underwent surgery in Athens
