The Kremlin has announced that Russian President Dmitri Medvedev finally signed the peace plan for the end of hostilities with Georgia in South Ossetia. However, Kremlin insists that troops must be certain for the security in the area before withdrawing despite of Washingtons demand for immediate withdrawal. US and Russia harden their stance on the influence they exercise on Eastern Europe countries. On its side, at the occasion of US-Polish agreement on the antimissile system, Moscow warned that Poland is becoming a priority target even for a nuclear hit while Ukraine announced its intention for immediate co operation.

    Chaos Remains

Although EU peace plan was signed by all counties, chaos remains. On Friday, Moscow assured on the withdrawal of troops from Georgia, but according to information, forces remain in Tbilisi in a 40 km. distance.

Irregular pro-Russian militia groups based in South Ossetia have been active on Georgian territory throughout the conflict. Foreign and Georgian civilians have accused them of hijacking cars and looting. Russia has said it will bring them to heel.

The railway line runs from Tbilisi, through the now Russian-occupied town of Gori, before splitting in three and running to the Black Sea ports of Poti and Batumi and southwest down to just short of the Turkish border.

Russia drove Georgian forces from South Ossetia last week, in a massive counter-offensive after Tbilisi tried to retake the region from pro-Moscow separatists.

    Bush-Rice: "Troops to Withdraw"

US president demands Moscow to end the crisis repeating that a possible conflict with the US does not benefit it. In his statement, US president said that the fact that Russia and Georgia have signed a truce agreement was a very "hopeful step". However, he stressed that Russia now needs to honor the agreement and withdraw its forces.

    Mrs. Bakoyiannis' Comment

"Situation in Caucasus is hard and extremely complicated, and Greece is watching developments with concern", Dora Bakoyiannis stressed and underlined that our country supports the European governments that are in favor of a solution without high tones. Greece considers Russia an important player and partner, the FM said and estimates that relations between the two countries will not be affected.
