  • [01] Lesvos' city hall turns off lights, flies flags half-mast for Manchester victims

Lesvos' City Hall turned its lights off and flew the Greek and EU flags half-mast as a message of solidarity and mourning for the terror attack in Manchester on Monday night that left 22 people dead and dozens injured.

"The people in Lesvos are shocked by the tragedy in Manchester. Personally, not only as a mayor who represents the people of the island, but also as a parent, I am shocked by the terrorist act that cost the lives for children," said Lesvos mayor Spyros Galinos.

"With this symbolic gesture at the City Hall, the people of Lesbos want to declare their mourning for the victims in Manchester and their sympathy to their relatives," he said, adding the flags will fly half-mast for three days.

[02] British tourist killed in water sport accident in Cephalonia

A 56-year-old British national was killed on Tuesday while doing water sports at Makris Yalos on the island of Cephalonia. According to the coast guard, the man and two friends were on a towable tube pulled by a speed boat when, during speedboat maneuvers, the man lost his balance and slammed onto his friends, losing consciousness.

An EKAV ambulance arrived at the beach and took the man to hospital. Authorities are waiting for the autopsy report that will shed light at the cause of death but initial reports say the tourist may have suffered a heart attack. The other two British nationals are well in their health.

The 37-year-old speed boat captain was arrested but he may be released by the prosecutor later.
