  • [01] Finance Minister Tsakalotos: No alibi for further delay in debt settlement

Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos expressed his optimism that the way for a good and final solution for the debt and the country inclusion in ECB's quantitative easing programme can open on Monday's Eurogroup, in an exclusive statement to Athens Macedonian News Agency on Sunday.

Two days after the voting of the omnibus bill, Tsakalotos noted that the country, fully and on time, met its obligations and now the decisions are in the institutions' hands and there is no alibi for another delay in the debt settlement.

Referring to the government's philosophy in the negotiations as well as on the claim for a comprehensive agreement for the debt, the minister said that it focused on the country's exit from the supervision, the establishment of a strong social state, the country' entry into a course of growth in which, this time, the people of labour will participate.

Greece turned page with the conclusion of the second review, he concluded.

[02] President Pavlopoulos in Corfu for 153th anniversary of unification of the Ionian Islands

President of Republic Prokopios Pavlopoulos is visiting on Sunday the island of Corfu to attend the celebrations for the 153th anniversary from the unification of the Ionian Islands with Greece.

The best way to honour this historic anniversary is to always keep in mind the emblematic symbolism of the Ionian Islands within the context of history and the culture of our country and its people, stated Pavlopoulos.

"The history and the culture of the Ionian Islands remind us that Greece sees its course and its prospect only as part of the European structure and of the hard core of the eurozone but also the European structure would lose its main characteristics and its orientation without Greece" underlined Pavlopoulos.

On Monday, President of Republic Prokopios Pavlopoulos will participate in the Summit for the 25th anniversary of the Organisation of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) that will be held in Istanbul following Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's invitation.

On the sidelines of the Summit Pavlopoulos will meet in private with the Turkish president.

During his visit to Istanbul, Pavlopoulos will visit the Ecumenical Patriarchate where he will meet with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.

[03] Eurogroup meeting can bring a comprehensive agreement, says europarliament VP Papadimoulis

Monday's Eurogroup must and can offer a comprehensive framework agreement, not only for the conclusion of the second review and the disbursement of the tranche in June but also to give a road map on the debt relief and on realistic primary supluses, stated europarliament vice president and head of SYRIZA group in the europarliament Dimitris Papadimoulis speaking to the public broadcaster ERT on Sunday.

Papadimoulis appeared optimistic that Greece is getting into a course of positive news underlining that "We must work hard to cover the lost ground, to heal the wounds created by the bankruptcy and the memoranda but what is for certain is that we are getting into a course that will bring positive news and the end of the severe supervision in the summer of 2018".

Concluding he said "This agreement is the release from the supervision and the government's target is to finish for good with the memoranda in the summer of 2018".

[04] Tsipras is exposed to the Greek people, says PASOK leader Gennimata

Alexis Tsipras succumbed to the lenders' demands, PASOK leader Fofi Gennimata stated on Sunday.

Now he owes to keep, at least, a national line on the debt. To claim with determination and effectiveness specific regulations on the debt relief and restructuring. We remind that Tsipras abandoned the acquis of 2012 decision and in 2016 offered to the European bankers at least 6 billion euros and received vague promises. The prime minister and the government are already exposed to the Greek people"
