  • [01] House of Athens transport chief targeted again by group opposing ticket validation machines

About 50 unknown individuals threw flyers, shouted and sprayed slogans in favour of "free transportations" on the walls of the house of the head of the Athens Urban Transport Organisation (OASA) Tasos Tastanis in the suburb of Ano Glyfada on Thursday evening.

The slogans read "Break the [ticket] bars" and "Kick ticket controllers".

This is the second time Tastanis' family has been targeted. On December 2016, a group of hooded individuals smashed his car, sprayed slogans on the walls of his house and threw red paint.

"This is one more fascist act planned by dark circles. It is reminiscent of other times and have no support whatsoever in society," Tastanis told the Athens-Macedonian News Agency.

"Obviously it does not agree with the request of millions of Athenians for modern, safe and affordable public transport. No matter how many threats and terrorist attacks we face, they will not discourage us. We will continue our struggle to upgrade the commute of our citizens and preserve the public character of urban transport with even greater intensity," he added.
