  • [01] ND accuses Tsipras of trying to 'conceal tragic mistakes' in economy through constitutional revision

New Democracy accused Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras on Tuesday of opening the issue of constitutional revision to divert the public's attention from the "tragic mistakes" of the government's economic policy which brought it back into recession.

"After devaluing constitutional institutions, attempting to manipulate the judiciary, stealing the powers of the [television regulator] NCRTV, restricting freedom of information and degrading parliamentary procedures, Mr. Tsipras brings back the issue of constitutional revision," the party said in a press release.

"He does it for obvious reasons; to conceal the tragic mistakes which led again the economy in the doldrums and society on the verge of destitution," it added, noting the prime minister should know the constitution is not "a game in his political arsenal neither a vehicle to create an impression".

[02] Greece's National Museum of Contemporary Art to collaborate with 'documenta 14'

Greece's National Museum of Contemporary Art (EMST) will collaborate with the organisers of the German art exhibition 'documenta 14', which this year will be hosted jointly by Athens and the German city of Kassel, its traditional base. The news was officially announced by the exhibition organisers in Kassel on Tuesday and passed on by the Athens municipality press office.

The museum will house a significant proportion of the international art exhibition in Athens, while a sizeable portion of the EMST collection will then be put on show in Kassel, adding an unique dimension to the long-awaited art event.

This is the first time that the 60-year-old documenta exhibition will be held in a second city, in addition to Kassel, following an agreement signed by Athens Mayor George Kaminis and Kassel Mayor Bertram Hilgen.

Preparations for the Athens opening of documenta 14 are now in the final stages, with a series of events planned for the launch between April 6-8. These include a horseback procession through the centre of Athens and a 100-day horseback journey covering 1,850 miles, from Athens to Kassel, passing through the western Balkan countries such as the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM), Serbia and Slovenia.

More than 5,000 foreign journalists, artists, critics and official delegation members are expected to attend the official press conference and other launch events.

The exhibition in Athens will then run until July 16 and that in Kassel from June 10 until September 17, featuring actions from all over the world to highlight a dialectic relationship that is attempted for the first time in the documenta exhibition's 60-year history.

Documenta is one of the world's largest international modern art exhibitions, which has been held in the German city of Kassel every five years since 1955.
