  • [01] SYRIZA maintains contact with society, says Econ Minister Stathakis to ANA

SYRIZA maintains the contact with society, underlined Economy, Growth and Tourism Minister George Stathakis in an interview to Athens-Macedonian News Agency on Sunday.

Referring to the messages that the government receives from the citizens he said that "the social strata we represent have received disappointments" but as he stressed "they continue to believe in our efforts and support our reforms". Stathakis also said that "the economy is now entering the phase of recovery and this will become more and more apparent in the everyday life".

He noted that "as long as we continue on this course, by the end of our four-year tenure the dynamic will be on our side" and said that the figures on the course of the Greek economy indicate that the goal of this government for fair growth is feasible.

On the second review of the Greek programme he said that we all wish to close soon while on the debt issue he underlined that in the following weeks IMF's review on the sustainability of the Greek debt will be completed "on this basis we will discuss the size and the context of the mid-term interventions that are necessary and must be agreed immediately, until Christmas the latest" he said.

[02] Gov't fulfils all requirements to move on a new growth course, says Environment Minister Skourletis

Government meets all requirements to move on a way that despite the difficulties and adversities can give hope and offer the possibilities of a new growth course for the country with more justice and with social orientation" said Environment and Energy Minister Nikos Skourletis in an interview with Athens-Macedonian News Agency on Sunday and opined that "if all these become reality then the government will carry out the entire four-year tenure".

Referring to the privatisations he noted that the government had and has a clear mandate from the former election on which privatisations it will complete adding that most of them are on track "I think its wrong to adopt the old privatisations programme formed by the previous government (ND-PASOK coalition government) adding that "we do not have the mandate to do it"

[03] KKE leader Koutsoumbas: SYRIZA was chosen to complete the dirty business

"SYRIZA has been chosen to complete the dirty business with the third memorandum because it can do the job better than New Democracy (ND) at this phase" claimed Communist Party (KKE) secretary general Dimitris Koutsoumbas in an interview with the Sunday newspaper RealNews. Moreover, he criticised government's handlings in the negotiations with EU and IMF and did not exclude the possibility of early general elections "If things do not go as the government wants then we can't exclude a heroic exodus" he said.

Referring to his party, Koutsoumbas ruled out cooperation with former parliament president and former SYRIZA deputy Zoe Konstantopoulou or with former SYRIZA minister Panagiotis Lafazanis "they have a huge responsibility for the left alibi they offered to SYRIZA and they disagreed at the last moment to save their political reputation".

On Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's recent provocations Koutsoumbas said "We believe that the government's attempt to reassure the people is dangerous when there are open issues in the region".

Finally, he sternly criticised Archbishop of Athens and All Greece Ieronymos for his latest interventions and called them "an attempt to divide the people and to revive the false dividing line 'nationalism-cosmopolitanism' blended with a primitive obscurantist anti-communism"
