  • [01] Tsakalotos to discuss banks, NPLs in meeting with ECB supervisory chief on Thursday

The status of the Greek banking system and its non-performing loans (NPLs) will be the main issues discussed in a meeting between Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos and the Chair of the Supervisory Board at the European Central Bank (SSM), Daniele Nouy, in Frankfurt on Thursday, the ministry said on Wednesday.

The meeting will be held at the ECB at 13:00 (local).

[02] Missing boat with irregular migrants found west of Paxos

Greek authorities have finally located a speedboat carrying irregular migrants, which had sent a distress signal via the European emergency number early on Wednesday morning. After a search lasting several hours by the Igoumenitsa and Ionian Island coast guard forces, the missing craft was found sailing adrift about 30 nautical miles west of Paxos. There were 29 people on board, including the operator.

According to early reports to the ANA, all on board are safe and well and will be transported to Igoumenitsa, in the custody of the coast guard. Based on their statements, the irregular migrants set off from the coast of Preveza at dawn headed for Italy but the speedboat engines broke down en route so they were unable to reach their destination.
