[02] State stands to gain up to 6.5 million a year from new Paros airport, Aegean's Vassilakis saysThe Greek state stands to gain roughly 6.5 million euros a year from the construction of the new airport on the island of Paros, Aegean Airlines Board Vice Chairman Eftichios Vassilakis said at the opening of the new airport on Friday. About 4.2 million euros will be saved from subsidies for low-season and low-traffic ferry links, while another 2.5 million euros is estimated to arise in direct revenues from VAT and departure fees from Athens, he said."This time the state, private sector and local bodies cooperated extremely well," he commented in a brief address, while noting that air travel on Paros had not developed because the old airport did not make it possible. The work to build the new airport had started from 2014, under the previous government, and with the involvement of the municipal authorities on the island, he said. The benefits would be apparent from the very first month, when Paros will have three to four times the number of airline passengers, while tickets will be cheaper and there will be links with destinations abroad.
