  • [01] Turkish military officers charged with illegal entry in Greece

AMNA/Alexandroupolis prosecutor pressed charges for illegal entry in Greece to the eight Turkish military officers, passengers of the Turkish helicopter that landed on Saturday at Alexandroupolis airport.

The Turkish officers who have already sought political asylum in Greece were not indicted with attempt to disrupt the country's international relations, something that as one of the suspects' lawyers said, would offer to some to consider the need for their extradition to Turkey imperative.

"The charge could not stand because they did not come to raise a problem to the country. They claim they did not take part in the coup, they were ordered, along with two other helicopters, to transfer the injured from the streets of Istanbul to a particular place" said their lawyer Menia Polychroni adding that they fear for their lives and for the families they left behind. All are married with children".

The Turkish officers were sent to the detention center at Feres and on Monday will appear before the asylum agency and afterwards they will be sent to court.

[02] European Commissioner Moscovici in Athens on Monday

European Commissioner for Economic and Financial Affairs Pierre Moscovici will pay an official visit to Athens on July 18.

Moscovici will meet with Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras at 12:30 at the Maximos mansion and afterwards will attend a working lunch with the participation of Economy Minister George Stathakis, Labour Minister George Katrougalos, Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos and Alternate Finance Minister Giorgos Chouliarakis.

Later, the European Commissioner will give a joint press conference with Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos at EU representation office in Athens.

Moscovici's schedule will conclude with his speech at the Greek parliament and to the parliamentary plenum of the Greek parliament's Financial, Production, Trade and European Committees.

On the occasion of Moscovici's visit to Greece the head of the Greek representation of EU in Greece Panos Karvounis stated "We welcome Commissioner Moscovici, a European friend of Greece that never lost his trust in the country's ability to recover and return where it belongs, inside the European economy. After the completion of the first review, the focus on the structural reforms, the fiscal stability and the promotion of the investments is absolutely essential. The main point of the second review is reforms to be implemented and not remain only at the adoption level with aim the restart of the growth. In this demanding course, the European Commission was and remains Greece's stable supporter".

[03] Humanitarian crisis in Europe the result of US failed intervention in the Middle East, says Michael Dukakis

AMNA/Michael Duukakis, former Democrats candidate for US presidency (in 1988) said that he does not believe the austerity measures will bring a positive result to the Greek economy and in parallel he expressed the hope US to play a decisive role to persuade the Europeans that this policy is pointless, in an interview with the Sunday edition of Kathimerini newspaper.

Moreover, Dukakis also blamed US for the humanitarian crisis in Europe "It is the result of US failed intervention in the Middle East that started with the foolish intervention in Iraq" he said.

Commenting the possibility the Greek-Americans to have the right to vote in the Greek elections he said "I am not sure that I would support it. I do not believe that this is the answer to Greece's problems".

[04] Onassis' legendary yacht "Christina" sails in the Aegean

AMNA/ Aristotle Onassis' legendary yacht Christina with Saudi Arabian prince Majed Abdulaziz Al-Saud and his guests on board along with the yacht "Elegant 007" hosting prince's friends from Russia, have anchored half a mile of the beach of Vatera in south Lesvos. The two yachts with the he prince and his guests on board arrived late Saturday at the port of Mytilene.

According to AMNA sources, the yachts' initial destination was Bodrum (Halicarnassus) but due to the political instability that prevailed in Turkey they changed their plans and decided to travel to the Greek islands. The same sources said that the two yachts next stop will be the island of Chios.
